Hotels in Sucre are a treat; there are plenty of options that allow you to spend the night in a traditional colonial-style building and soak up some of the city’s history. There are a few world-class boutique hotels that are well worth the splurge and will likely tempt you to stay longer than you expected. Sucre is just that kind of city.
Well located on a quiet street a few blocks from the plaza, Casa Verde is a small, comfortable B&B that is perfect for those looking for a calm, quiet base from which to explore Sucre. Owner René takes a little warming up, but is very knowledgeable about the city and can be a great help with organizing your time in and around Sucre. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, and the large common area and covered swimming pool are pleasant.
This is a good option for those on a budget who still want to stay in colonial-style splendor—so long as you don’t mind some peeling paint and a healthy dose of kitsch in the furnishings. It's not totally without charm: the interior courtyard is colorfully painted and full of greenery, and the rooms, although worn and not very well illuminated, are spacious and clean. There is a small crafts market across the road; a lot of the crafts are pretty generic, but it will do for some traditional woven textiles in a pinch.
