The Best Hotel in Isla del Sol and Isla de la Luna, Lake Titicaca

Background Illustration for Hotels

You will be amply rewarded for your climb up the steps from the port—the higher you go, the cheaper the hostels, or posadas. They are almost all quite basic so, in most cases, you will be trading the bells and whistles of upper-quality hotels for a peaceful retreat with gorgeous views. If you go without a reservation, you'll likely find women or children waiting at Yumani's port to invite you to stay. The north side of the island is more barren but also has attractive options, including a place on the beach itself.

$$$ | Yumani Village, Isla del Sol, Bolivia
Just steps from Yumani, this well-manicured top property has 14 circular stone bungalows with gas heaters that look like Inca turrets from afar. Inside, tiled bathrooms, wooden floors, and bedstands give it a proper rustic, homey feeling. The restaurant has an earthen oven baking the usual Titicaca pizzas, but you'll want to try a bite of their regional cuisine.

Pros

  • Scenic
  • Within walking distance of other food options
  • Fireplace in the dining hall

Cons

  • An hour uphill from the port
  • Service can be hit or miss
  • Can be cold at night but extra blankets available
