2 Best Bars in San Antonio de Areco, Side Trips from Buenos Aires

Background Illustration for Nightlife

Pulpería, almacén (general store), and despacho de bebidas (drinks counter) are some of the labels you might find on San Antonio's many traditional bars. Some genuinely haven't changed in 50 years (neither have their clientele), and others are well-intentioned re-creations; all provide truly atmospheric surroundings for a coffee or a drink.

Boliche de Bessonart

The ancient two-story brick building looks like it's right out of an old western movie, and the interior also fits the part. Nothing fancy here, this is a place for vermouth and soda, beer, and a platter of good cured meats and cheese. If you're around at night, you'll find it's a regular watering hole for the local gauchos.

La Cuadra

Silver and leather aren't the only hand-crafted products in San Antonio. A few varieties of artisanal beer, have been brewed locally for La Cuadra. The amber-colored Scottish ale packs a punch in winter; the paler pilsner's ideal for cooling off in summer. Pizzas, sandwiches, and other snacks accompany them. Just don't sit too closely to the speakers.
