The Greenbrier
One of the leading resorts in the country, the massive Greenbrier exudes historic charm and old-fashioned elegance, and is single-handedly responsible for securing White Sulphur Springs’ place on the tourist trail. It was built in 1780, and extensive additions have been constructed over the years. Surrounded by 6,500 acres, the resort has a grand turn-of-the-20th-century style: massive white columns rise six stories against a white facade, and nine lobbies offer vast, chandeliered common areas. Every guest room is different and decorated in Dorothy Draper pastel prints. For outdoors enthusiasts, there's canoeing, rafting, horseback riding, a hunt club and game preserve, facilities for trap- and skeet shooting, and a regulation croquet court.
