Two major freeways, Interstate 90 and Interstate 82, pass through the cities of Ellensburg and Yakima, where you'll find the highest concentration of lodgings. A few independent motels are available, but the majority are independently operated under familiar chain names. At the far northeastern end of the region sits Suncadia Resort, offering possibly the finest accommodations in the area. Several bed-and-breakfasts are also available, particularly in the lower Yakima Valley, near the plethora of wineries in the area. It is always prudent to call ahead for reservations, but the busiest tourist times include the third week in April, for Spring Barrel Tasting, and from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
This strikingly handsome boutique hotel, which is part of Hilton's indie-spirited Tapestry Collection, occupies a grand 1911 Masonic temple, and many of its architectural flourishes have been retained. The rooms are decidedly modern and quite cushy, with plush robes and linens, and high-end bath products. Guests can relax in several appealing common spaces, including a lending library–business center, fitness room, and modern lobby hung with works from a local gallery.
Ellensburg's first downtown hotel in generations opened in 2020 and consists of a masterfully designed four-story building incorporating parts of a historic Elks Club building, complete with stylish high-ceilinged rooms with tall windows and thoughtful touches, such as sliding barn-style bathroom doors, bedside reading lamps, and lots of outlets and media ports for your gadgets.
One of the best budget-minded options in the area, this reliable chain property conveniently located on the south edge of downtown offers travelers plenty of elbow room in contemporary rooms with separate sitting areas and lots of amenities, including refrigerators and microwaves, and—in some suites—jetted tubs and kitchenettes. Facilities include an outdoor picnic and barbecue area.
This dignified 1910 country inn—set on a plateau of vineyards and hops fields a few miles southeast of Yakima—consists of a manor house with an upscale restaurant, five traditionally furnished upstairs rooms, and a newer, more private cottage with six rooms that feature such cushy amenities as steam-sauna showers and gas fireplaces. Chef-owner Brad Masset oversees the Continental-style prix-fixe restaurant (one 7 pm seating Thursday through Saturday; reservations essential). The wine cellar has an excellent selection of local and international vintages, and there's a pool and hot tub out back.
Modern, spacious, and comfortably furnished rooms in the heart of downtown are the draw of this appealing property whose perks include a living room–style lobby with a two-sided glass fireplace, a casual restaurant, and a full-service spa. There's a well-equipped gym and a very nice indoor pool and hot tub, too.
On the city's southwest side, this bright, attractive outpost of Hilton's popular extended-stay brand is great for families or those on longer trips, but its reasonable rates and handy features—patio with gas grills and a fire pit, big suites with well-designed kitchens—are appealing for all kinds of travelers. Although slightly outside downtown, it's a good base for exploring western Yakima's attractions and wineries.
Comprising four handsomely restored suites in a former boardinghouse for rail workers and four offbeat vintage caboose all filled with engaging railroad memorabilia, this distinctive inn is especially fun for fans of vintage trains, but the individually decorated accommodations are quite comfy, too. Adjacent Iron Horse Park, which is bisected by a span of the 250-mile Palouse to Cascades State Park Trail, is a wonderful spot for hiking.
This mid-rise property overlooking the Yakima Greenway path and the Yakima River has good-size rooms with separate sitting areas, and many with patios or balconies overlooking the river and hills beyond. Just off the freeway but with easy access to nature, the hotel is just east of downtown.
