The Center of Order and Experimentation

West Town Fodor's Choice

"Not a cult," signs around this Grand Avenue shop cheekily proclaim. But what it is, exactly, defies easy categorization: it's part coffee counter, part purveyor of fastidiously arranged Japanese stationery and fountain pens, and part home decor shop with a bent for utilitarian goods like metal storage boxes. It's part performance art (see, for instance, the staff's somber boilersuits). And all together, it's a wholly unique shopping experience.

Goods for the Study

Greenwich Village Fodor's Choice
Lovers of organization, writing, and beautiful things flock to this stationery store from the team behind McNally Jackson bookstore. In addition to a better-than-average selection of normal paper store products—greeting cards from independent artists, notebooks of handmade paper, office supplies from acclaimed designers, hundreds of pens sourced from around the world—the shop also carries art prints from its sister store, Picture Room.

Gus & Ruby Letterpress

Beacon Hill Fodor's Choice

Sure, we love our technology, but we still also really love paper products, and that's the majority of what this cool gift store stocks. First, explore the entire section devoted to wares by Rifle Paper Co., and then pick up something for the cherished infant in your life from the edited selection of precious and expensive baby clothing. There are also artful gift items, teas, and more.
