The Mini Mall

Williamsburg

Don’t let the word "mall" conjure up images of suburban shopping centers; you won’t find a chain store at this small, long-standing galleria of hip, Brooklyn-minded boutiques that share an indoor concourse. Here you might find souvenirs from fashionable vintage clothing stores, an independent bookstore, a Tibetan paraphernalia vendor, shops selling handmade accessories, jewelry, and bath products, or, for that keepsake that lasts forever, the tattoo parlor.

At this downtown fine-foods market, shelves and displays are filled with small-batch snacks, sauces, and sweets that make great edible souvenirs. There's also a selection of wine and beer, and the deli case—well-stocked with nitrate-free cold cuts, cheeses from boutique creameries around the world, pickled veggies, and fancy condiments—provides the starting point for yummy sandwiches and trendy charcuterie boards that would be perfect for a picnic or a pool party.

The Right Slice

Blueberry-piña colada, lilikoi (passion fruit) cheesecake, coconut or banana cream: these are among the mouthwatering tropical pies offered at the full-service main location of this bakery. It also delivers desserts and savory potpies weekly to Lihue and Poipu, and sells at the Kukuiula farmers' market on Wednesdays. Seating and parking are very limited, so get pies to go---you can even take a frozen one on the plane.

Rocking Rudy's

Ostensibly a record store, with the largest collection of new and used vinyl in Montana, the original hipster department store is best known as a unique and eclectic gift shop that will keep you entertained for hours even if you forgot your wallet. Locals know it well, and every first-timer comes away gushing superlatives and swearing they'll be back. Great place for T-shirts, jewelry, cards, journals, and so on.

Stray Vintage

Expect to find local artist prints and state park maps, textiles, and a mix of new and vintage items. There’s also a solid collection of vinyl records in the back, including jazz, soul, reggae, funk, and more.

Tom Ford

V&J Duncan Maps, Prints and Books

Historic District

Originally opened by Virginia and John Duncan in 1983, V&J Duncan was purchased by new owners and relocated to picturesque Madison Square in 2022. The shop specializes in antique maps and prints and carries a vast collection of engravings, photographs, and lithographs. There are also rare books on Southern culture and signed editions of John Berendt's famous Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. The shop's hours aren't strictly observed, so call ahead to make sure they're open. With so much to see, plan to spend some time here.

Midtown

Most of the high-end restaurants and design shops here are located in and around Westside Provisions District, a complex of former meatpacking warehouses transformed into bustling stores.

White Label Vinyl

With black cement-block walls and a white drop ceiling, this no-frills record store isn’t going to win any awards for interior design, but what it lacks in the looks department it makes up for in inventory. Winter Park Farmers’ Market

It's worth getting up early on a Saturday to amble through the local farmers' market (8 am to 1 pm), a favorite destination for food, flowers, and fellowship since 1979. Within and just outside a historical train station, some 85 vendors hawk everything from fresh vegetables and artisanal cheeses to locally produced honey and dried fruit. Pick up fresh fruits and veggies from Sugar Top Farms and artisanal bread from Old Hearth Bread Co. or chopped pineapple from Indian River fruit. A quick coffee and fresh croissant from the market is a great way to jump-start a day of Park Avenue shopping. You can park on nearby streets and the public lots on New York Avenue and Morse Boulevard and Lyman and New England Avenues.

The Woodlands at Phillips Mushroom Farms

Kennett Square's famous mushrooms appear on many local menus, and this shop in the old brick family farmhouse overflows with mushroom-theme items from aprons to notecards; fresh, dried, and marinated mushrooms; and specialty mushroom products like soups. Steps away, in the farm's small but informative mushroom-growing exhibit, you'll see and learn how mushrooms are grown indoors. It's 1½ miles south of downtown. (The Mushroom Cap downtown at  114 W. State St. is another option for mushrooms and themed gift items.)

Worthwhile

Designer clothing, shoes, and jewelry make it fun to shop at this boutique in a 19th-century historic home. You can also find artsy and hip baby gear.
