Copley Society of Art

Back Bay

After more than a century, this nonprofit membership organization continues to present the works of well-known and aspiring New England artists, as well as out-of-town and foreign members. Styles of artists range from traditional and academic realists to contemporary and abstract painters, photographers, and sculptors. Each year, the gallery hosts between 15 and 20 exhibitions, occasionally off-site in such locations as the Langham Hotel and Harbor Towers.

Craftsman House Gallery

Set in a lovingly renovated Craftsman bungalow, this gallery offers a variety of wares created by both local and national artists and craftspeople. Toward the back is a small café where you can order a wrap or bowl of soup and a craft beer or espresso drink; the large front porch, which faces Central Avenue, is a great place to people-watch while you snack. Occasionally, the gallery hosts concerts by touring musicians.

Crazy Wolf Studio

Authentic Northwest Coast art is the specialty at this crowded gallery run by local Tsimshian artist Ken Decker and his wife. Decker's work includes dance paddles, drums, and bentwood boxes featuring formline ravens, eagles, bears, and salmon.

Crow Town Gallery

Hugging the road on the way to West Quoddy Head Light, this gallery in an old clapboard building is well worth a stop, showcasing works by top-tier artists from the farthest reaches of Down East.
