Charlotte Beer Garden

South End

Take an Uber to this massive beer garden just outside Uptown if you want to sample even a fraction of their more than 400 taps, the world's largest draft selection. A tree grows through the three levels including a bar just for NC beers, a kitchen cooking up pizzas and pub grub, and many outdoor seating options. Supervised children are welcome with their families until 9 pm.

Chart Room

French Quarter

Unpretentious even by New Orleans standards, this little dive not far from Canal Street draws a good number of locals from the Quarter and beyond for inexpensive drinks and wide-open doorways that offer table seating just off the sidewalk. Note that it's cash only.

Château Carbide

Chicago Loop

The eye-catching Carbide and Carbon Building has its first rooftop bar. The Pendry Chicago Hotel, the skyscraper’s latest occupant, turned a former private-event space on the 24th floor into a chic indoor-outdoor lounge overlooking the Chicago River. The wine list emphasizes rosés (there are even several rosé cocktails), the kitchen offers sushi and small bites, and after dark, DJs spin French house.

Chatham Squire

Boasting four bars (including a raw bar), this is a rollicking year-round local hangout, drawing a young crowd to the bar side and a mixed crowd of locals to the restaurant. There's always something happening at the Squirelive music, trivia contests, DJs, pool tournaments, you-name-it.

Cheapshot

Downtown

Think of this 99-seat venue as a tiny Vaudeville fantasy world; on any given night, you might encounter an aerialist, a drag queen, a piano singer, a juggler, a comedian, or something entirely different (and similarly mind-boggling). There's burlesque, too. Owner Ryan Doherty bills the space, which is only open weekend nights, as a \"variety club\" and the name is apt; the more you go, the more variety you're likely to see. Drinks, including craft cocktails, are strong and designed to get the audience nice and loud. Perhaps the best part of the Cheapshot experience is the value: for a low set price you get 90 minutes of entertainment. Where else in Vegas can you find such a deal?

Checkpoint Charlie's

Faubourg Marigny

This corner bar draws young locals who shoot pool and listen to blues and rock, whether live or from the jukebox—24 hours a day, seven days a week. Weekends often feature hard rock, punk, and metal bands. There is also a fully functioning laundromat. Street kids and pan handlers typically hang out front.

Cheer Up Charlies

Downtown

This local gay bar, dance club, and live music venue boasts an incredibly friendly staff that delivers an equally friendly pour (whether it's a Lone Star beer, biodynamic wine, or kombucha on tap). The LGBTQ+-friendly bastion serves as a great meetup point thanks to its large back patio (plus a resident food truck) in the heart of Red River. There is weekly programming on the indoor and outdoor stages dedicated to live music, drag shows, record releases, themed dance parties, and more. With its location in the heart of SXSW madness, expect music showcases and special events during the festival.

Cheers Boston

Beacon Hill

Whether you call it Cheers or its original name, Bull & Finch Pub, this local hangout turned tourist hot spot celebrates Sam Malone's watering hole from the now-classic hit 1980s NBC television show, Cheers. But why? This pub, which was dismantled in England, shipped to Boston, and reassembled, served as the inspiration for the TV bar and its cast of characters, Diane, Frasier, Norm, Cliff, et al. Today, enjoy typical pub grub and burgers alongside a beer, Cheers' award-winning Bloody Mary, or Sam's own Screaming Viking. Children are not allowed after 10 pm.

Chef's Special Cocktail Bar

Chef’s Special brings fun energy to Bucktown’s bar scene with brightly flavored cocktails in colorful shabby-chic digs. Don’t snooze on the menu of kitschy classic Chinese-American dishes; the kitchen is overseen by the team from Giant, the Logan Square favorite. Happy hour, held every evening from 5pm to 6 pm, means the place is packed within minutes of opening.

Chemist Cocktail Bar

Financial District

If you walked right by this bar without realizing it's a bar, you wouldn't be alone—its signage makes it look just like a European pharmacy. But don't be fooled, as the Chemist's elixirs have more to do with alcohol than medicine—think classic cocktails (the Vesper, the Boulevardier) and house-created ones. Local DJs spin tunes nightly, adding to the atmosphere.

Cherry's on the Bay

Cherry Grove

Whatever you do, don't ask the bartender for an iced tea at this bayfront bar, famous for having some of the best cocktails on the island. Here, it's about drag queens, D.J.s, and some of the wildest parties, all under the famous red and white-striped big top. The crowd is predominantly gay but everyone here is welcome, as long as you're happy. Get here by ferry from Sayville.

Chickie Wah Wah

Mid-City

Right on the Canal Street streetcar line, this neighborhood music club is unassuming from the outside but hosts some of the city's most popular acts. With happy hour and early evening sets on offer, this destination is a favorite among low-key New Orleanians who aren't into late nights. The covered patio is a popular place to hang between sets.

Chilkoot Charlie's

Spenard

A rambling timber building with sawdust floors, loud music, weekend DJs, and rowdy customers, Chilkoot Charlie's is where Alaskans go to get crazy. The legendary bar has many unusual nooks and crannies, including a room filled with Russian artifacts and a reconstructed version of Alaska's infamous Birdhouse Bar.

Chill Bar Palm Springs

Dance, drink, drag, and dine at this nightclub in a strip mall in the heart of the gay-centric Arenas Road district. By day, it's quite civilized. Socialize on the patio, share a watermelon feta salad, and play games. When the sun goes down, it's time to get down on the large dance floor to the hypnotic electronic beats of live spinners, enjoy drag performers, or marvel at the go-go dancers. Alcohol flows all day, every day no matter the theme.

Chop Suey

Capitol Hill

One of the city's defining music venues of the early 21st century continues to put on terrific shows, book acts that will make headlines in the future, and support local artists. The eclectic mix of performers defies categorization, and nights without shows offer dance parties and DJs. The venue underwent a much-needed remodel in 2015 that improved the space and removed some of the questionable "Asian" decor, though the name, to the chagrin of many, remains.

Chuck's Hop Shop

Greenwood

Were it not for the awning, picnic tables, and rotating food trucks routinely parked outside, this place might look like just another corner convenience store—which it used to be before owner Chuck transformed it into one of North Seattle’s favorite spots for sampling craft beer. With 50 taps, Chuck’s features an especially good selection of IPAs and ciders on draft, many of local origin. Families love this extremely kid-friendly spot—there’s an ice-cream counter, ample seating inside and out, and stacks of board games. Chuck’s also offers a huge selection of bottled beers from all over the world, including gluten- and alcohol-free options.

The Church

Capitol Hill

Multiple rooms on three floors in a decommissioned church host DJ-spun dubstep and bass on Thursday, EDM, hip-hop, and trap on Friday, and salsa, bachata, reggaeton, cumbia, and other Latin-style dance on Saturday.

ChurchKey

Logan Circle

There's an astounding selection of beers at ChurchKey—555 varieties from more than 30 countries, including 50 beers on tap and exclusive draft and cask ales. If you have trouble making a choice, bartenders will offer you 4-ounce tasters. The urban-vintage vibe balances unassuming and pretentious in pretty much equal measure, reflected in a menu that ranges from tater tots to Caesar salads to rotating flatbread options.

The Cinch Saloon

This Wild West–motif neighborhood gay bar has pinball machines, pool tables, and several theme nights and drag shows on the schedule. The Cinch is not the least bit trendy, which is part of the charm for regulars of this landmark 1970s bar.

Circle Bar

Warehouse District

Like something out of a Tim Burton film, this teetering old Victorian house that straddles the concrete jungles of downtown and the Warehouse District hides one of the coolest indie-rock clubs in the city. Scenesters descend around 10 pm, but earlier in the evening this is a laid-back neighborhood haunt. Pull on your skinny jeans, so that you can squeeze into the room that holds what might be the world's tiniest stage.

City Winery

Chelsea

It's a restaurant. It's a bar. It's a winery. But above all the newish location of City Winery at Pier 57 is a music venue, attracting top-notch artists and comedians. The 350-seat auditorium is an intimate spot to catch a show. Singer Rufus Wainwright, comedian John Mulaney, and musician Norah Jones have graced the stage. Even the late, great Prince put on unannounced shows at City Winery. The in-house eatery serves everything from burgers to seafood to flatbreads, and the bar has 12 different wines on tap.

City Winery

West End

Part fully functioning winery, part bar and restaurant, and part live music stage, there is so much to do at this unique Boston venue. As wine is a focus, there are guided tastings of locally produced wine and two-hour winery tours focused on wine making. City Winery also hosts live performances featuring stand-up comedians, singers, and musicians, including national acts and Grammy nominees. A full menu and bar are available during shows.

CityScape

The best place to take part in Downtown Phoenix's thriving nightlife offers a mix of clubs, entertainment, restaurants, and shopping, all within steps of hotels and sports arenas.

CityWalk's Rising Star

CityWalk

If singing is your thing, you and other hopeful (and hopeless) songbirds can really let loose in front of a live audience. You'll croon to either recorded tracks or, when available, you'll be accompanied by a live band complete with backup singers. A full bar is always on tap. Admission is free. Must be 18+ with valid photo ID; alcoholic beverages available for 21+ with valid photo ID.

Clerys

South End

Open-windowed, multiroomed Clerys can be your neighborhood bar, Irish pub, dance hall, sports hub, trivia game spot, or even the home for local Georgia Bulldogs sports fans. Expect long lines on weekend nights when DJs take the state from 10 pm to close; its several rooms bustle with young professionals. Food ranges from bar snacks such as nachos, wings, pizza, and burgers, to main events like steak tips and vodka pasta.
