Omni Providence

$$ | 1 W. Exchange St., Providence, RI, 02903, USA Fodor's Choice

Towering over Downtown, the Omni is steps from restaurants, the Rhode Island Convention Center, the Amica Mutual Pavilion (formerly Dunkin' Donuts Center), and Waterplace Park, home of WaterFire. The hotel hosts many conference guests and has a business-traveler vibe—and it's a wedding venue—but it's also child- and pet-friendly. Payne's Harbor View Inn

$$ | 111 Beach Ave., Block Island, RI, 02807, USA Fodor's Choice

This 2002 inn, designed to blend with the island's historic architecture, occupies a breezy hillside overlooking the Great Salt Pond and is just minutes from Crescent Beach. Rooms are larger and more modern than those of many of its Victorian-era rivals; some have private decks with water views, and most are outfitted with whirlpool tubs. A spacious yet private back porch and Adirondack-chair-strewn lawn area remain relatively undiscovered despite commanding views. Champagne is served with the breakfast buffet.

Admiral Fitzroy Inn

$$ | 398 Thames St., Newport, RI, 02840, USA

The restful retreat in the heart of Newport's bustling waterfront district was once a convent in a different location—the tidy 1854 Victorian building was dismantled in 1986 and rebuilt to its original size and style in its current location. The inn's namesake commanded the HMS Beagle, whose most famous passenger was Charles Darwin, and antiques adorn the rooms, which have either an antique brass or hand-carved wood bed frame; all guests have access to the rooftop deck with a view of the harbor; two have semiprivate decks and hot tubs.

  • Elevator service to first three floors
  • Close to shops, restaurants, and bars
  • Complimentary parking

The hotel is full of youthful energy even when unwinding in the outdoor, guests-only backyard. The Beatrice

$$ | 90 Westminster St., Providence, RI, 02903, USA

The historic four-story Exchange Bank Building is the perfect location for one of Providence's newest luxury boutique hotels, which has a cozy charm paired with stylish rooms and views of downtown streets. Champlin's Marina and Resort

$$ | 80 West Side Rd., Block Island, RI, 02807, USA

A rarity on Block Island, this full-service resort is outside of town, making it a quiet oasis from the summer bustle in New Harbor. That said, it's not too quiet: in addition to 55 guest rooms spread around five buildings and a pair of two-bedroom suites, the resort is home to a popular marina bar that hosts live music nightly in the summer, a charming waterfront coffee shop, a poolside snack bar, and an ice cream stand serving Gifford's hard ice cream and soft serve. Firepits, cornhole games, and bocce courts fill a pleasant courtyard, and the Galley House restaurant serves lobster rolls and other sandwiches as well as a handful of entrees. The island's largest resort marina has slips for 100 boats, including some big enough to accommodate superyachts.

Club Wyndham Bay Voyage Inn

$$ | 150 Conanicus Ave., Jamestown, RI, 02835, USA

While options for overnight stays in Jamestown are limited, the Bay Voyage is a stalwart that has undergone several evolutions in its lodging and dining but retains the charm that led the original owners to float this Victorian-era inn across Narragansett Bay from Newport in 1890. The inn is walking distance from town and features rooms with water views, an attractive seasonal outdoor swimming pool, and an on-site restaurant. It’s a time-share resort that also offers rooms for overnight stays, so most accommodations are suites.
