Galway Bay Irish Restaurant and Pub

$ Fodor's Choice

Step inside this Irish pub, and you'll be welcomed like a member of the family. As would be expected, the corned beef and cabbage and other traditional Irish menu items (along with classic Annapolis bar food like crab and oysters) are fantastic. The bread pudding served with vanilla custard is a great way to end your meal. On Sunday, brunch is served from 10 to 1:30—the homemade corned-beef hash is simply divine—and live Irish music is performed 4–8.

Granny Annie's Bar & Kitchen

$$ | Roosevelt Island Fodor's Choice

This gastropub offers Irish and American selections including a delicious and comforting shepherd’s pie, bangers and mash, cheeseburger sliders, flatbreads, wings, salads, and sandwiches. Seat yourself, and grab a plate from the dishware pile on the tables for a meal. The bar is outfitted with flatscreen TVs showing soccer matches and other sports. Come during weekend brunch for a proper Irish breakfast.

McGuire's Irish Pub

$$ Fodor's Choice

Since 1977 this authentic Irish pub has promised its patrons "feasting, imbibery, and debauchery" seven nights a week. A sense of humor pervades the place, evidenced by the range of prices on hamburgers—$10–$100 depending on whether you want it topped with cheddar or served with caviar and champagne. As for the "richness" of the decor—on the walls and ceiling are nearly $1 million in bills signed and dated by "Irishmen of all nationalities."

Raglan Road Irish Pub

$$$ | Disney Springs Fodor's Choice

If an authentic Irish pub—actually transported from the Old Country plank by plank—is your thing, Raglan Road is the place. In addition to excellent fish-and-chips and shepherd's pie, the inventive chefs twist Irish cuisine to include dishes like Gulf shrimp and risotto with buffalo mozzarella and fresh peas. The entertainment alone makes this place worth the visit. "Trad" bands play nightly, and a troupe of Irish dancers performs several times on weeknights and on weekends between 10 am and 3 pm during the Rollicking Raglan Brunch. Musicians also play outside for guests dining alfresco. A store called Shop for Ireland sells Irish merchandise. Around the corner, the Raglan-affiliated Cooke's of Dublin offers fast-take fish-and-chips, pies, and deep-fried "battered burgers."

Black Sheep

$$ | Rittenhouse Square

Converted from a private club with blacked-out windows, this Dublin-style pub has been packing them in for rivers of Irish draft and kitchen specialties. Guinness-battered fish-and-chips could have been produced on the "auld sod," and the malt vinegar to sprinkle over it all does little to dampen the crisp crust. The first-floor bar is noisy and spirited—show up before happy hour to snag a seat—but the mood gets a bit quieter as you climb the steps to the dining room or walk downstairs to the basement bar.

Coleman's

$

Crawl through the little front door built for the "wee people" and you'll understand why this restaurant is the center of Tipperary Hill, Syracuse's Irish neighborhood. (Don't worry: there's also a regular-size entrance.) Green beer flows freely every March 17, and corned beef and cabbage and open-faced Reubens lead the menu year-round. Also available: shepherd's pie, seafood, and burgers. The cozy wood-paneled, two-story pub has several fireplaces. There's a full bar and Irish bands play Thursday through Sunday. Patio dining is a summer option.

McCreary's Irish Pub

$
If you need some place snug to get out of the rain, stop into McCreary’s for shepherd’s pie and a pint of Harp. Their selection of seafood fare, like the Galway fish sandwich, will give you that Irish coastal feeling even as far inland as Tennessee. If you’re feeling especially decadent, stop by between 9 and noon on the weekend and give the bread pudding French toast a try.

McNamara's Irish Pub

$$ | Donelson

It’s impossible to overstate how cozy this Irish pub is. There’s live music every night of the week, but on Friday and Saturday, you can catch the owner himself performing traditional Irish tunes with his band, Nosey Flynn. After dinner, Finn McCool's Giant Ice Cream Pie is an unbeatable treat, but you’ll need at least four people to finish a slice. Or, if you’re after something a little stronger, McNamara’s serves every Irish whiskey you can get in Nashville. If there’s a long wait downstairs, they also serve the full menu upstairs in the semi-secret sports bar.

Murphy's Irish Pub

$

This combination Irish pub, sports bar, and restaurant has a large central dining room with an open fireplace in the middle, a bar on one side, and a smaller dining room at one end. A block from the boardwalk, Murphy's has plenty of easy parking.

Tam O'Shanter

$$$ | Atwater Village

It’s a bit of a specific recognition, but Tam O’Shanter is the oldest restaurant run by the same family in the same location in Los Angeles, operating for more than 90 years in its Tudor-style spot. Their delicious food, ranging from thinly cut prime rib to belly-warming shepherd's pie, makes it one of the most festive places in town during the holidays. Fun fact: it was Walt Disney’s favorite restaurant.
