Camp 1805

Fodor's Choice

Yet another delicious reason to spend time around Hood River's buzzy waterfront district, this craft distiller of rum, vodka, and bracing white whiskey offers an interesting menu of creative cocktails, from new-school mai tais to soothing drinks made with CBD-infused mint oil or elderflower-lavender bitters. There's a noteworthy food menu, too, with ahi poke nachos and grilled cheese sandwiches leading the charge.

Ferment Brewing Company

Fodor's Choice

One of the latest venues to further Hood River's reputation as something of a mini Brewvana, Ferment uses traditional farmhouse techniques to craft complex beers as well as kombucha, from Bavarian-inspired smoked dunkelweisse to Japanese-style sensa kombucha. The gorgeous, airy tasting room has huge windows overlooking the waterfront, and the kitchen turns out tasty gastropub fare that utilizes the brewery's fermentation-forward approach—think salt and vinegar fries with kombucha ketchup and house-pickled veggies.

Pfriem Family Brewers

Fodor's Choice

Inside a striking new building on the Columbia River, Pfriem (pronounced "freem") is all about the marriage of Belgium's brewing traditions and Oregon's decidedly hoppy style. The brewery has quickly vaulted to the top echelon of Northwest craft beer makers, earning accolades for its heady Belgian Strong Blonde and one of the best IPAs in the state. The on-site restaurant serves stellar pub fare, too, including mussels and fries, vegan Moroccan stew, and house-made bratwurst.

Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom

Notable for its European-style beers, including the rich Black Irish Stout and the refreshing Kölsch, Double Mountain also produces seasonal cherry-infused Kriek ales and a hoppy India Red Ale. The bustling, homey downtown taproom is also a great source for pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. There's a second location in Portland.

Freebridge Brewing

This lively taproom with tall redbrick walls and ample bar and table seating offers a worthy roster of Northwest- and Euro-style ales, with some great seasonal offerings (an imperial porter, a Berliner weisse) in the mix. There's plenty of good pub food, too, from molasses stout chili to hand-tossed pizzas.

Hood River Common House

At this convivial downtown bar and bottle shop with café tables and a few comfy armchairs, you'll find an extensive selection of local wines, beers, and ciders. There's no kitchen, but guests are welcome to bring food in from nearby restaurants. For a sweet kick on one of those hot summer days in the Gorge, try a Sloshy Pop—these boozy gourmet popsicles come in refreshing flavors like strawberries-and-rosé and pineapple-lemongrass.
