Fodor's Review

Chef Joshua McFadden's fantastic Roman-inspired Italian eatery ranks among the top tables in town both in popularity and quality. Capsule-shape lamps dangle from the vaulted ceiling of this buzzy dining room with two long rows of banquette seating and several more closely spaced tables. The menu emphasizes regional, home-style recipes from throughout Italy, but focuses on local produce. You could make an impressive feast of three or four giardini (gardens) sides, such as pumpkin with brown butter, currants, and pecans. Satisfyingly hearty mains include spaghetti with artichokes, bottarga (cured fish roe), and lemon, and the tender lamb with lemon, garlic, and cultured cream. The cocktail and wine programs are also top-notch.
