Fodor's Expert Review Washington Irving Inn

6629 Rte. 23A, Hunter, New York, 12442, USA

Formerly a summer home for New York's high society, this 1890 inn retains many original architectural details—including lustrous dark-wood paneling, stained-glass windows, built-in bookcases, and carved fireplace mantels. Guest rooms contain some lovely antiques, patterned wallpaper, and beautifully refinished woodwork.Three have private balconies. If you're looking for more privacy, there are also two cottages shaded by maple trees. Breakfast and afternoon tea are included.
