Kinderhook

One of Kinderhook's most notable residents was Martin Van Buren, eighth president of the United States. You can retrace the steps of early American history by walking or driving through the village, which brims with well-preserved Federal and Dutch Colonial architecture. From here it's a short hop to Chatham, where you can spend a day bouncing around the hip shopping district and checking out art galleries.
