Fodor's Expert Review Cottonwood Inn
NM 230, Taos, New Mexico, 87529, USA
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
This rambling, two-story adobe house with 11 fireplaces and such classic regional architectural details as bancos, nichos, and high latilla-and-viga ceilings is right along the road to the ski valley, just a couple of miles south of Arroyo Seco's quaint village center. Rooms are plush and attractive, with 450-thread-count linens, hand-carved wood furniture, and regional folk art, but they offer plenty of variety in size and price. The largest have huge bathrooms with steam shower-baths or Jacuzzi tubs, and the highly popular Mesa Vista Room has both of these features as well as its own private entrance. Organic, local ingredients are used in the hearty breakfasts, which include plenty of fresh-baked pastries, cookies, and scones.
PROS
- closer to Taos than most accommodations in Arroyo Seco
- some of the largest and fanciest bathrooms of any B&
- Bs in Taos
- great views of mesa and mountains
CONS
- not within walking distance of any restaurants, one of the few accommodations close to Arroyo Seco
