8 Best Hotels in Billings, Billings, Little Big Horn, and the Montana Plains

A Cracker Barrel next door and proximity to I–90 make this chain hotel by Best Western a good stop for late arrivals and early departures. Up to two pets per room stay free, and kids will love the indoor pool with water playland. There's also a hot tub. All rooms are outfitted with Western-style decor, and ground-floor suites have fireplaces and tubs with jets. 

If you’ve brought the kids along, this family-oriented resort ("resort" is used loosely) is the choice, hands down. It has a 35,000-square-foot indoor water park (extra charge for in-house guests) boasting two three-story slides, four mini-slides, a wave pool, and a 20-person hot tub. On the other hand, those annoyed by wet, barefoot kids racing around should choose another property.

With 23 stories, this property is one of the few high-rises in Billings, making it a handy orientation point. It's also located right downtown, within walking distance of most restaurants and breweries. Guest rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with some providing mountain views. The hotel is noted for its superb Western art collection, which hangs in both public areas and guest rooms. The appropriately named Montana Sky Restaurant ($$$) is located on the 20th floor and serves breakfast and dinner. 

Featured on Hotel Impossible in 2012, this downtown institution has come a long way from the dump it once was. It still has a Western theme (think custom carpet featuring cattle brands) that borders on tacky, but most guests say it's just part of the charm. That said, rooms 223, 224, and 226, which are especially popular around Halloween, are known for their paranormal activity. The property was actually built in 1950 using bricks from an old hospital. 

A double-sided fireplace serves as the lobby focal point for this West End property. Guest rooms have a good work space, natural lighting, and comfortable mattresses topped by white duvets. Communal amenities include a heated indoor pool, whirlpool, and 24-hour business center. The on-site restaurant offers room service, dinner, and an all-you-can-eat breakfast (not included in the nightly rate). 

Coining themselves “unpretentious historic luxury” this downtown hotel that originally opened in 1902 is proud to be the only four-star hotel in Billings. Guest rooms have been renovated and have added insulation in the walls (although there are still noise complaints in some reviews). Amenities include a fitness center, complimentary, covered parking in the garage next door, and two restaurants on the main level—Bernie’s Diner, a breakfast and lunch spot named after the owners’ mother, and TEN, which has some of the best food in town and a big wraparound bar that is great for meeting new people.

Expect lots of white and light, neutral tones at this hotel with some of the most pleasant staff in town. Because of the inn's location along Billings's medical corridor and its squeaky-clean image, many people who come to town for a hospital visit stay here. While the property has been around for nearly 40 years, it's constantly updating. For example, all the carpets have been replaced since 2022.

Among the newish properties in the West End, this conveniently located all-suite hotel with an indoor pool and hot tub has a lot going for it. Rooms are 25% larger than most hotel rooms, and a partial wall divides the sleeping area from the sitting area, where a sofa, armchair, and desk provide a good work-and-relaxation space. A nook houses a compact sink, refrigerator, microwave, and cabinets.
