With dishes like Parmesan-crusted baked haddock and seafood pasta, the dinner menu here isn't all about fried seafood, as steak and chicken dishes are available; the lunch menu features burgers, wraps, and sandwiches. The dining room has tables, booths, and bar seating, and a dessert case tempts; beyond here the pub, with a "steampunk-inspired" compass rose mural by a local artist, offers bar tables and seating at the curved wood bar.

In business for many years, the look here is updated and fresh, as the family-run establishment was rebuilt after a fire in 2014; it serves lunch and dinner, with entrées as well as burgers, sandwiches, salads, and the like. While the menu is big on seafood, don't expect only fried: try choices like charbroiled salmon topped with a maple glaze made with mustard, maple syrup, and blueberry jam, all Maine-made. Even before it was a foodie thing, Helen's was sourcing from local farms and waters. House-based goodies include a huge selection of pies and traditional New England hermit bars.

In this grand brick building in the center of downtown, huge arched windows flood light into this high-ceilinged brewpub, as do harbor-view windows in the back and glass doors to the water-view side deck. Passersby know things are happening here, and many turn right in for a craft brew, a bite from the simple pub food menu, and the local flavor.

Don't let this no-frills convenience shop’s appearance deter you: lobster and crab rolls are among the homemade grab-and-go offerings in the summer, which also include sandwiches like pulled pork and fish burgers. Perched on the water in a shingled building downtown, this popular restaurant serves some of the sweetest scallops you'll ever eat; moqueca (a Brazilian seafood stew); and filet mignon for those so inclined. It's also a great place to grab a glass of wine or a beer at the bar or a cup of coffee while gazing out at the water. If you want the lowdown on where to go or what to see in Lubec, this is the place to ask.

Linger near the open kitchen and you may hear diners pay homage to the chef at the wood-fire grill as he prepares dishes like duck with a maple-peppercorn glaze, linguini with Maine littleneck clams, and Maine-raised bone-in rib-eye steak. Thin wood-fired pizzettes with toppings like caramelized onions and lobster Alfredo is a lighter choice. Housed in a landmark downtown storefront with soaring windows and ceilings, this restaurant's wonderful food and atmosphere have made it a destination. Pictures of Eastport's former sardine plants hang on a brick wall, and gas-burning lanterns and streetlamp-like lights throw a soft glow. Urbanites will feel at home, but locals do, too. A fun bar area with low tables and banquettes hides behind an interior wall. Specialty cocktails like the Foghorn (Tanqueray, fresh-squeezed lime juice, and ginger ale) have a Down East twist, and 12 Maine microbrews and craft beers are on tap.

Just north of downtown Eastport, this expansive waterfront eatery sits on the pier next to the ferry dock. Ice cream was sold here in the early 1900s, and still is, and the name is the same, but ownership of this downtown fixture has changed over the years. Part of the old marble counter remains at what today is a café and bistro where folks bustle in for breakfast or lunch or linger over coffee inside and on the porch. The lunch menu has soups, salads, and sandwiches like chicken salad with grapes. Breads and baked goods are made in-house. Dinner is served Thursday through Saturday (it's open until 6 the rest of the week), offering traditional entrées like baked stuffed haddock and seafood fettuccine and good prices on wine by the bottle or glass.

A bright yellow exterior invites a stop at this delightful restaurant in a former sea captain's home perched on the bank of the Machias River, as are the restaurant's vegetable and herb gardens. Ask for a table in the intimate sunroom, which has water views and opens to the other dining room. You can enjoy a drink on the deck. The chef-owner brings a special flair to traditional dishes, such as pork served with a pistachio crust. His signature dish is salmon stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp. In summer months the menu includes dressed-up dinner salads—try pairing one with standout appetizers like hake cakes and red-tuna wontons. Also an inn with Victorian touches, Riverside has two guest rooms in the main house and two suites in the coach house.

Salty accents add plenty of flavor at this down-home restaurant, which serves a late-morning breakfast (10 to 11 weekdays, 8 to 11 on Saturday), lunch, and dinner. A pamphlet tells the story of Tall Barney, a brawny fisherman who left truly tall tales in his wake. Your server may be among his multitudinous descendants. The menu includes five types of seafood stew; grilled, baked, and fried seafood; vegetarian dishes; and oversize desserts including seasonal pies. Call the night before to order a boxed lunch.

There isn't much of a view from the picture windows, but locals don't mind: they come here for the satisfying seafood—and the occasional ukulele concert. The dining room is large and has a modestly stocked, beer-centric bar. Entrées include seafood dinners and combo platters and some chicken and meat dishes; there are burgers, too, and the pizza is popular. You can order from the lunch or dinner menu. A take-out window and ice-cream bar are open May–September. If you can't get a table in the summer, head directly across the street to Becky's Seafood, an excellent food truck parked in the owner's front yard that serves similar fare, plus locally smoked salmon. Becky's also sells fresh, uncooked seafood to grill yourself.
