The Tides Beach Club

$$$$ | 930 Kings Hwy., Kennebunkport, ME, 04046, USA

The stately building that houses the Tides Beach Club is a charming grande dame from the Gilded Age heyday of seaside "cure" retreats. Just steps from long, sandy Goose Rocks Beach, this lively inn is the epitome of laid-back, seaside-chic design, which extends into each of the spacious, bungalow-like rooms that are decorated in rich, feel-good ocean blue and coral hues.

Pros

  • Use of the common spaces (pools, spa, garden) at the very exclusive Hidden Pond
  • Beach service for a relaxed lunch or dinner on the sand
  • Most rooms have ocean views

Cons

  • Definitely will lighten your purse
  • A lot of activity in and around the inn
  • Not pet-friendly

The Wanderer Cottages

$$ | 195 Sea Rd., Kennebunk, ME, 04043, USA

This cluster of tidy, well-appointed cottages opened in 2022 in a quiet area that's still a stone's throw from beaches and Dock Square. The cottages might look tiny from the outside, but soaring ceilings and whitewashed walls make them feel spacious. The “little cottages” are for two adults only; children 12 and older can stay in the “big cottages.” Some cottages are dog-friendly.

Pros

  • Heated saltwater pool
  • Serene, nicely landscaped setting with a firepit and a bocce court
  • Private, spacious-feeling cottages, some with sitting areas

Cons

  • No kids allowed
  • No on-site restaurant
  • 1½ miles from Dock Square and 1½ miles from Parson's Beach
