In the area between the buzzy Gold Coast and the Chicago River, the vibe is less frenetic and the retail is more focused on art galleries, antiques shops, and home-furnishings stores. Some of these are housed in historic buildings—most notably Bloomingdale's Home & Furniture Store, which occupies the Moorish Revival–style Medinah Temple. Shoppers who work up an appetite needn’t worry. Somewhat surprisingly, there are also a number of touristy megarestaurants here, including Ed Debevic's, Rainforest Café, and a humongous flagship McDonald's.
