Aloha Shirt Festival

Hawaii's "wearable arts" are showcased at this unique festival held every September at the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa. From vintage displays of all kinds, to fashion runway shows (tickets required) and pop-up vendors and exhibits, this fun event also includes a few paid workshops, a lei contest, live entertainment, and even a special festival rate for the Feast & Fire Luau.

KWXX Hoolaulea

Since 1993, a local radio station has sponsored the island's largest free concert, a famous hoolaulea (festival) that takes place mid-September in downtown Hilo and attracts a bounty of Big Island musical talent. Music styles featured included Hawaiian, reggae, and island music. Some big names play here on four different stages, and there's dancing in the streets along the bayfront, rain or shine.
