Why We Like It

This luxurious home away from home is full of perks, incredible views, and friendly hosts that clearly want to give you one of the most memorable vacation stays of your life. Every detail has been accounted for, no matter how small, to provide a high-quality experience, and the house and cottage are utterly gorgeous.

Fodor's Expert Review

With the amenities and available concierge services of a luxury resort, Aolani House is the perfect escape for the high-end traveler who wants privacy and serenity. The infinity pool, hot tub, and 1200 ft elevation views of the ocean are just a few of the things that make this house a real treat. Stunning photography and resin art pieces by contemporary artist and home owner Anna Sweet add a special level of opulence. The cozy Coffee House is a reflection of the nearby five acres of coffee and mac nut farms and has its own special charm, including grill, fire pit, and hot tub. Both houses were built by the same builders as the Hualalai Four Seasons Resort.

Tip Though there are additional costs, take advantage of the house’s concierge services. They can handle dinner and excursion reservations, grocery shopping and cooking, and can even take care of adding some extra romance to the house for when you arrive.

Getting Around

You’ll need a car to get to your accommodations and around the island.

Restaurants

Holuakoa Restaurant (7-minute drive) is a slow food restaurant that sources lots of its ingredients locally (most within five miles of the restaurant) and changes its menu regularly based on the season and available ingredients. At Lava Lava Beach Club (50-minute drive) you’ll find a menu that includes happy hour specials, daily fish preparations, and island twists on classic foods like hamburgers and ribs all right on the beach. The bar is also a big draw, with delicious and strong cocktails (the “Big Bamboocha” will definitely get your vacation started well) and a nice wine menu.

Bars

The Big Island’s newest brewery, community-owned Ola Brewery (18-min drive), offers brewery tours and tastes. Be sure to try the White Pineapple Cider! With lava flow and mai tai flights (they have 10 different kinds), there’s plenty to love at Don’s Mai Tai Bar (16-min drive). Thursday nights are particularly fun as they host a weekly Hawaiian music series.
