White-Water Rafting

Chattooga River. The first river in the Southeast to be designated a Wild and Scenic River by Congress, the Chattooga River forms the border between Georgia and South Carolina. With Class II to Class V rapids, the Chattooga is popular for white-water rafting, especially in spring and summer. Movie buffs should note that this was one of the locations for Deliverance. Nantahala Outdoor Center. The North Carolina–based Nantahala Outdoor Center, the largest rafting company in the region, has an outpost on the Chattooga for Class III and Class IV trips starting at $109 per person. Wildwater Rafting. This is the oldest outfitter in the area, with a campus that also features ziplining and overnight accommodations.
