14 Best Hotels in Atlanta, Georgia

Background Illustration for Hotels

One of America's most popular convention destinations, Atlanta offers plenty of variety in terms of lodging. More than 95,000 rooms are in metro Atlanta, with nearly 12,000 Downtown, close to the Georgia World Congress Center and State Farm Arena. Other clusters are in Buckhead, in the north Interstate 285 perimeter, and around Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The Candler

$$ | 127 Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA, 30303, USA Fodor's Choice

History abounds in this Downtown hotel that was once a building owned by Asa Griggs Candler, founder of the Coca-Cola Company. That rich legacy exudes from the walls of the building, literally. Figures of the family are etched in marble mined from north Georgia, and huge columns made from that same marble hold court in the restaurant. Decadence is everywhere, with gold and velvety textures taking center stage set amid an art deco backdrop. Look for the original Tiffany stained glass and dazzling teardrop chandelier above the staircase, and the original hexagon tiles underfoot in some spots. The rooms belie the building’s age, with enough space for a chaise and moderately sized table, with great views of nearby Woodruff Park from a few.

Pros

  • National Register of Historic Places building with modern conveniences
  • Easy access to Downtown and nearby neighborhood sights
  • Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design nominee

Cons

  • Area can be busy when Georgia State University is in session
  • Woodruff Park unhoused
  • Main entrance off side street can be confusing

Hotel Clermont

$$ | 789 Ponce de Leon Ave., Atlanta, GA, 30306, USA Fodor's Choice

There’s no better stay within walking distance of Ponce City Market and the BeltLine, and for cool factor combined with the conveniences of a modern hotel with vintage touches, there may be no better stay in Atlanta. Lush foliage and wicker and rattan seating welcome you in the lobby, as does an ice-cold PBR in honor of legendary stripper Blondie, whom you may be lucky enough to catch at the downstairs lounge. Rooms are furnished with an eye toward art deco, from the velvet headboards and seating to “Jetson”-style desk lights, but less Miami bright and more Southern sophistication. The building itself is historic, but with spacious rooms, foolproof complimentary Wi-Fi, and freshly made kombucha in the café, the experience is far from 1924 when the building was first erected.

Pros

  • Rooftop bar with great views of the city
  • Plenty of nooks to hang out with friends or take a private call
  • Diverse mix of guests and locals

Cons

  • Spotty valet service
  • Late-night bar crowd on weekends
  • No room service

Kimpton Sylvan Hotel

$$ | 374 E. Paces Ferry Rd., Atlanta, GA, 30305, USA Fodor's Choice

Slow down as you approach this gem of a former 1950s apartment building turned boutique hotel or you may drive by it. Once inside, you’ll have a hard time deciding whether to lounge in the soothing nature-inspired aesthetic of the rooms, relax in the courtyard, or grab a drink in the plush restaurant, The Betty. Thoughtful touches like a big, blond-wood dining table with board games nearby and easy access to bikes for rent play well with the mid-century modern vibe. Look for local artwork throughout, and especially along the St. Julep rooftop bar—the jewel of the hotel in both color scheme and place to be.

Pros

  • Near the ritzy Buckhead Village District shops
  • Multiple outdoor spaces to enjoy
  • Yoga mats in every room

Cons

  • Easy to miss entrance
  • No suites
