Fodor's Expert Review Liberty Square Riverboat
An old-fashioned steamboat, the Liberty Belle is authentic, from its calliope whistle and the gingerbread trim on its three decks to the boilers that produce the steam that drives the big rear paddle wheel. The boat misses authenticity on only one count: there's no mustachioed captain needed to guide it during the ride around the Rivers of America. That task is performed by an underwater rail. The 1½-mile cruise is slow and not exactly thrilling, but there are lovely views of Tom Sawyer Island and surrounding attractions. Children like exploring the boat, and lines move quickly. For people with disabilities: Wheelchair accessible; enter through exit on right or left. Come when you need a break from the crowds. Check the Times Guide—the riverboat is open only seasonally.
