This small shopping district less than a mile southwest of Downtown has new- and vintage-clothing boutiques, shoe stores, and antiques shops. It also has a growing selection of inventive and offbeat eateries and bars, not to mention some of the city's most colorful characters.

Viking wannabes go crazy for the soft toy spears and shields. The plush seals are sweet for tots, and you can find Norwegian pewter, leather goods, and colorful woolen sweaters and knit caps, along with a wide variety of character goods from the hit movie Frozen. The shop's larger-than-life troll is always ready for a selfie.

Fleamasters Fleamarket

Just east of downtown, more than 900 vendors sell new and used goods Friday through Sunday 9–5. Its music hall hosts live entertainment.

This nonprofit gives 125 artisans from throughout the state a chance to exhibit glassware, jewelry, furniture, and more. (Imagine a vivid coral reef seascape made entirely out of yarn. Stuff like that.) Here you can also book a walking tour of Downtown St. Pete's colorful murals. The gallery is open seven days into the late afternoon but stays open late for the famed Second Saturday Art Walk.

Florida Mall

With more than 250 stores and 1.7 million square feet of shopping, this mall is large enough to vacation in (even easier since there's a 511-room hotel attached). Its location between the airport and International Drive makes it an easy stop for incoming and departing tourists hunting for a bargain. Exclusive shops include American Girl, the Crayola Experiences, and M&M World. Anchor stores include JC Penney, Dillard's, and Macy's, and dining is equally impressive, with two dozen restaurants and eateries. Stroller and wheelchair rentals are available, as are concierge services and currency exchange.

Fly Boutique

After 13 years on South Beach, this hip vintage clothing store moved to the up-and-coming MiMo District in Miami's Upper East Side. This resale boutique is where Miami hipsters flock for the latest arrival of used clothing. Glam designer pieces from the 1980s fly out at a premium price, but vintage camisoles and Levi's corduroys are still a resale deal. You'll find supercool art, furniture, luggage, and collectibles throughout the boutique. And be sure to look up—the eclectic lanterns are also for sale.

Frangipani

Colorful, bold prints befitting Miami feature heavily in the men's and women's clothing at this bright, independently owned boutique. Books, stationery, and locally made art and accessories also serve as perfect mementos of Florida.

Expect high style and eye-catching garments at this boutique. The studio-like setting matches the highly edited collection of fashionista favorites (previous brands have included Bec & Bridge, Sam&Lavi, IRO, and For Love & Lemons). Co-owner Cheryl Herger also designs her own private-label line especially for frankie. Skirts and dresses with interesting silhouettes, uniquely cut tops, and swimwear almost too good for just the pool are interspersed with easy-chic basics.

Furst

This studio-shop gives you the chance to watch designer Flavie Furst or her pupils at work—and then purchase their fine, handcrafted, gold, gold-filled, and silver jewelry. The other half of this space is the Ronald Furst bespoke handbag store, selling unique bags, purses, and sacks.

The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale

Intracoastal and Inland

Fort Lauderdale's most sophisticated mall is just west of the Intracoastal Waterway. The split-level emporium comprises Apple, H&M, Macy's, and dozens of specialty shops. You can chow down at the Capital Grille, P. F. Chang's China Bistro, or Seasons 52—or sip cocktails at Blue Martini. The mall itself is open Monday through Saturday 11–9, Sunday noon–6. The stand-alone restaurants and bars are open later.

The Gallery at Beach Place

Beachfront

Just north of Las Olas Boulevard on Route A1A, this shopping gallery is attached to the mammoth Marriott's BeachPlace Towers' time-share property. Retail spaces are occupied by touristy shops that sell everything from sarongs to alligator heads, chain restaurants like Hooters, bars serving frozen drinks, and a supersize CVS pharmacy, which sells everything you need for the beach.

Beach Place has covered parking and usually has plenty of spaces, but you can pinch pennies by using a nearby municipal lot.

Gallery C

Up a wildly painted staircase, this gallery owned by artist Carol Winner (the "C" in the gallery's name) displays and sells one-of-a-kind semiprecious jewelry and mixed-media creations, as well as paintings of local nature scenes.

Disney's Hollywood Studios

Children love this open-air shop for the dolls, plush princess toys, and dress-up costumes. You can drop a small fortune on glass (plastic) slippers and a magical light-up wand—or splash out fully with the coveted Ariel mermaid costume gown. If this location is closed, as it often is during the off-season, head to Mickey's of Hollywood.

International Plaza
