Traveling for a girls’ getaway? Or a "mancation" with the bros? This is the affordable place to lay your head. The rooms can be configured to whatever sleeping arrangements you need--like a cruise cabin. It’s simplistic, clean, and the location is in a quiet neighborhood yet you’re only a few blocks from Duval Street and the Historic Seaport.
YOU SHOULD KNOW This is an adults-only boutique-style hotel. No kids, no kidding. There is also no designated parking, and no elevator.
Just like a cruise cabin, they customized the white steel-frame beds based on the size of your party. Get a king for two, or bunk beds for six. While the memory foam bedding is comfortable, these rooms are rather barren, with nary a chair, but they’re tidy-whitey clean and every bed gets its own lighted nook/charging station and a tall, RFID locking closet. You also get a mini fridge and flat screen TV.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Some online reviews refer to NYAH as a hostel. While you can book an individual bed in a room with other solo travelers, these accommodations are in another stratosphere compared to a European hostel. Call it what you want, we call it smart.
Beautifully modern from floor to ceiling, with backlit mirrors, vessel sinks, walk in glass showers, and plenty of natural light. The only thing lacking is counter space for a woman’s travel essentials. They do provide a hair dryer and body wash and shampoo.
Pool towels are provided so you don't need to bring your bathroom towels outside.
It's a nice space, with purple under-counter lighting, wood floors, a nice staff and a check-in counter. You’ll also find a help-yourself Starbucks coffee/tea machine and a bar with a few tables and stools.
The lobby is staffed 24 hours a day, so even if you arrive late, you'll be fine.
Surrounded by the conch-style buildings that house the guest rooms, you'll find three freshwater pools and two jacuzzis (that look like small pools) in the private courtyard. Loungers are sleek and towels are provided.
Every pool and jacuzzi is kept at a different temperature. Meander the brick pathways and take a dip in each to find your favorite.
A continental breakfast is served poolside each morning with yogurt, fruit, bread, danish, bagels, hard-boiled eggs and fresh juices.
It’s a lobby! It’s a bar! While it's open day and night. Daily happy hour happens at 4:20 p.m. and ends at 5:20 p.m. It's an extremely quick happy hour.
Put on your comfy shoes and walk. The helpful folks at the front desk can also call you a cab anytime, day or night. Leave your car parked, it’s the smart thing to do. They have bikes you can borrow if you don't want to walk.
Craving a little Cuban? El Siboney (14-minute walk) has homemade sangria and unbelievably good prices. Order the #7 El Siboney Steak (churrasco). Dang, that’s good. Deuce’s ‘Off The Hook’ Grill (10-minute walk) may be small but it’s worth waiting for an elbow-to-elbow table. Lobster mac-and-cheese, shrimp and grits…it’s so good, you’ll give back things you never stole! Sarabeth’s Kitchen (7-minute walk) is the popular brunch spot with the finest homemade muffins and jams, but you have to try their meatloaf.
Schooner Wharf Bar (6-minute walk) will give you a true taste of Key West with live music on the patio. Locals love it. Harpoon Harry’s (3-minute walk) is cash only with a full liquor bar. They also serve a killer breakfast--don’t forget--cash only. Pepe’s Café & Steakhouse (4-minute walk) has been serving up great food and cold drinks since 1909. Try their fresh-squeezed screwdriver! Hungry? Every Thursday is Thanksgiving.
WHY WE LIKE IT
While its facade blends right in with all the other Victorian-style homes in the area, it is not anything like your typical home, or Key West B&B. It’s sleek, modern, budget-friendly, and the rooms are designed to get you to spend time outside, mingling with other guests or with your own group.
This type of setup will not be everyone. And older travelers should ask for a ground floor room. But if you’re a little adventurous and dig the Key West vibe, NYAH is exactly what you'd hope to find in the southernmost city: a central location, great rates, and fun people to share your vacation with.
