5 Best Hotels in The Everglades, Florida

Background Illustration for Hotels

Accommodations near the parks range from inexpensive to moderate and offer off-season rates in summer, when rampant mosquito populations discourage spending time outdoors, especially at dusk. If you're devoting several days to exploring the east-coast Everglades, stay in park campgrounds; 11 miles away in Homestead–Florida City, where there are reasonably priced chain motels and RV parks; in the Florida Keys; or in the Greater Miami–Fort Lauderdale area. Lodgings and campgrounds are also plentiful on the Gulf Coast (in Everglades City, Marco Island, and Naples, the latter with the most upscale area accommodations).

The Hotel Redland

$ | 5 S. Flagler Ave., Homestead, FL, 33030, USA

Of downtown Homestead's smattering of mom-and-pop lodges, this historic inn is by far the most desirable. With its Victorian-style rooms done up in pastels and reproduction antique furniture, there's a fantastic restaurant and bar inside as well. Opened in 1904, this was the town's first hotel, which later became its first mercantile store, first post office, first library, and first boardinghouse. It's now recognized as the oldest building in the city. Each of the 13 charming rooms feature unique layouts and furnishings, and some provide access to a shared balcony. Owners have transformed the hotel's restaurant on the first floor into City Hall Bistro-Martini Bar, a foodie haven for Spanish and Mediterranean cuisine with guitar music on weekends. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the property.

Pros

  • Historic charm
  • Conveniently located
  • Excellent dining

Cons

  • Traffic noise
  • Small rooms
  • Potentially haunted
