Getting Here and Around

The main airport for the region is Jacksonville International Airport. Free shuttles run from the terminal to all parking lots (except the garage) around the clock, and transportation service into the city is available from numerous companies in vehicles that range from taxis to vans to limousines. Check beforehand on prices, which vary widely, and on which credit cards are accepted. The average cost per person from the airport to downtown is $35 to $45; it's $45 to $55 for trips to the beaches. The larger companies usually operate 24/7. Both Uber and Lyft can serve passengers at the airport.

Connecting the north and south banks of the St. Johns River, the St. Johns River Taxi runs between several locations, including Southbank Riverwalk at Friendship Park, the Doubletree Hotel, the Southbank Hotel at Jacksonville Riverwalk, TIAA Bank Field, the Hyatt Regency, and the Arena dock. The one-way trip takes about five minutes. The water taxis run Sunday through Thursday from 11 to 9 and Friday and Saturday from 11 to 11 (except during rain or other bad weather), with other hours on game days and for special events. The fare is $10 (cash only) for one day. Special ticketed tours are available to the zoo, the Riverside Arts Market, and other spots.

Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) buses and shuttles serve the city and its beaches. The city also operates a small monorail system that links the convention center and a few downtown areas to several other stations across the river on the Southbank and San Marco. It is free and runs weekdays from 6 am to 9 pm and weekends during special events only. JTA also operates the Mayport Ferry, which transports cars and pedestrians across the mouth of the St. Johns River.
