After a Yabu Pushelberg face-lift in late 2013, the sleek Hotel Victor, originally influenced by Parisian designer Jacques Garcia, has replaced the dated jellyfish motif with a newer incarnation of bold modernism. The coolest part of this deceptively big hotel is the second floor, which features a sexy infinity-edge pool that overlooks Ocean Drive and the beach, and a large outdoor terrace bar. Most rooms are compact but with oversize bathrooms, and they mostly overlook the pool and the ocean.
YOU SHOULD KNOW While a tranquil oasis, the hotel is located directly on Ocean Drive, known for its throngs of tourists and cafes with hosts that will hawk overpriced drinks and food.
Different guest rooms offer beach or pool views, but all are equipped with Yabu Pushelberg-designed interiors that invoke a post-century beach cabana vibe. Beds are made with 300-thread count linens and rooms feature flat panel TVs and mini-bars stocked with Dean and Deluca snacks. Free Wi-Fi is available in all rooms.
Guests can borrow iPads at the front desk.
Bathrooms offer walk-in marble showers with rain shower heads and Gilchrist and Soames products.
The lobby features a stunning Midcentury Modern vibe and is an oasis from Miami Beach's famed Ocean Drive--just outside the door. A large patio overlooks the action from a calmer viewpoint.
The pool deck overlooks Ocean Drive and the beach beyond. Take a dip in the water or relax in a teak daybed for two.
Spa V offer massages and facials, while Nail Republic will give you sandal-worthy toes.
A 24-hour fitness room is provided for guests. Bicycles are also available for loan.
Borrow a bicycle (first come, first serve basis) and traverse the famed Miami Beach broadwalk -- just outside the hotel, alongside the beach.
Down & Dirty Tacos offers tacos and tequila in a party setting. The Kardashians put Sugar Factory on the map, which serves over-the-top items like a milkshake festooned with mini cheeseburgers and cocktails served in fishbowls. Pinkberry offers much-needed apres-beach cooling in the form of frozen yogurt.
Vue Terrace offers signature cocktails and great people watching.
Ocean Drive is Miami Beach's most congested street and is often closed for festivals and events. Walking, the Miami Beach trolley, and ride shares are your best bets for getting around.
Red the Steakhouse (15-minute walk) offers Certified Prime steaks and fresh seafood in a sophisticated setting. Joe's Stone Crab (20-minute walk) is Miami Beach's oldest restaurant and the premier place for stone crabs (in season).
Repour Bar (10-minute walk) offers cocktails made with fresh herbs from its own garden. The Regent Cocktail Club (15-minute walk) serves cocktails in a speakeasy setting with live music offered many evenings.
