PGA National Resort & Spa

$$$ | 400 Ave. of the Champions, FL, 33418, USA Fodor's Choice

This golfer's paradise, home to five championship courses and the site of the yearly Honda Classic pro-tour tournament, is a sleek modern playground with a gorgeous zero-entry lagoon pool, seven different places to eat, and a full-service spa with unique mineral-salt therapy pools. The clubhouse is massive, but since the course is open only to hotel guests and members, the greens are not overcrowded. In 2022, the resort unveiled a $100 million overhaul, which gave rooms a 1960s feel, with wing-back headboards, custom vintage black-and-white palm-leaf wallpaper, and plush area rugs.  At the spacious pool, comfy loungers abound, and servers rush over to take your drink order. The spa, which is open to the public and very well respected by locals for its frequent packages, was reimagined by Venus Williams–founded design group V Starr. It includes two Himalayan salt rooms and outdoor therapy pools—two with healing salts from the Dead Sea and France's Pyrenees and a cold plunge—a real treat.

Sea Horse Oceanfront Inn

$$ | 120 Atlantic Blvd., Neptune Beach, FL, 32266, USA Fodor's Choice

This coral-and-blue, 1950s throwback caters to budget-minded guests seeking an ultracasual, laid-back oceanfront experience. The vibe may be retro, but the technology is up to date, with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, small refrigerators, microwaves, and coffeemakers. All the rooms face the ocean and have private balconies or patios from which to watch the sun (or the moon) rise over the Atlantic. The kidney-shaped pool and lounge chairs are pretty standard issue but offer a refreshing respite from the hot Florida sun or the salty ocean. The Lemon Bar is a hot spot for locals and hotel guests, especially on weekends.

Pros

  • Beach access with private dune walkover
  • Popular on-site bar
  • Free breakfast baskets at the front desk

Cons

  • No-frills decor
  • No room service
  • No elevator

The Seagate Hotel & Spa

$$$$ | 1000 E. Atlantic Ave., Delray Beach, FL, 33483, USA Fodor's Choice

Those who crave luxury in its full glory (rooms with ultraswank tilework and fixtures, marble vanities, seamless shower doors plus access to a spa, pools, and beach club) will love this LEED-certified hotel with a subtle Zen-coastal motif. Although the hotel dates back to 1911, everything, including its private off-site beach club feels fresh. A saltwater pool, one of the first in the area, was grandfathered in during the remodeling and is a highlight of the beach club. Water-sports rentals are available year-round, and the restaurant is perfect for a leisurely lunch. Back at the hotel, a quiet infinity pool can be found adjacent to the spa, and it's hard not to be smitten with the aquariums peppering the common spaces; four in total, with the centerpiece being the lobby's 2,500-gallon tank, they are home to a wide range of creatures, from beautiful lionfish to slithering moray eels, and the concierges have fact sheets on the inhabitants for you to peruse. Rooms are decorated in relaxing neutrals and have plush bedding and Keurig coffeemakers. Opt for the deluxe category—they are one step above the standard rooms, and all have balconies. There's a complimentary trolley that takes you to the beach club, and the hotel offers car transport within a 5-mile radius from 8 am to 11 pm.

Pros

  • Two swimming pools
  • Fabulous beach club
  • Exceptionally knowledgeable concierge team

Cons

  • Main building not directly on beach
  • Daily resort fee
  • Separate charge for parking

The Setai Miami Beach

$$$$ | 2001 Collins Ave., FL, 33139, USA Fodor's Choice

This opulent, all-suites hotel feels like an Asian museum: serene and beautiful, with heavy granite furniture lifted by orange accents, warm candlelight, and the soft bubble of seemingly endless ponds complemented by three oceanfront infinity pools (heated to different temperatures) that further spill onto the beach's velvety sands. Suites are a minimum of 550 square feet and are divided between the hotel's art deco building and its residential tower. The colossal Ocean Suites range from one-bedroom to a 10,000-square-foot, four-bedroom suite, all with special amenities like a private VIP entrance, a dedicated concierge, round-trip private airport transfers, complimentary spa treatment, and access to the house cars. Even if you can't afford a stay at one of Miami's priciest hotels, take time to visit this most beautifully designed space. Its restaurants and bar— Jaya, Ocean Grill, Japón, and The Bar & Courtyard—are open to nonguests, as is the fabulous Valmont for The Spa at The Setai. The oceanfront gardens are lush and painstakingly manicured, and rooms are as expansive as the premises and furnished in an Asian style that is at once minimalist and cozy. The beach lounges and beachside service are pure bliss.

Pros

  • Quiet and classy
  • Beautiful grounds
  • Excellent dining and spa

Cons

  • TVs are far from the beds
  • Busy pool area
  • Many rooms lack ocean views

$ | 2637 S. Atlantic Ave., Daytona Beach Shores, FL, 32118, USA Fodor's Choice

Rustic furniture and beds swathed in mosquito netting are a nod to Old Florida at this 11-story beachfront resort, but there's nothing rustic about the amenities, including a luxury four-poster bed, doorless Italian marble showers, and a 42-inch plasma TV in every room. Rooms are spacious and have views of either the ocean or the Intracoastal Waterway. The Indonesian-inspired spa, Indulge, and the Azure restaurant and bar also overlook the ocean.
