This posh boutique hotel, stomping ground of Florida's well-heeled, is full of historic touches and creature comforts—from its yellow facade with dramatic white-draped entry to modern draws like the renowned spa and Daniel Boulud restaurant. The lobby, with soaring cypress ceilings, underscores The Brazilian Court's Roaring '20s origins. Although not directly on the beach, car service and access to an oceanfront facility allow guests to enjoy plenty of beachside fun in the sun. All the studio and one- and two-bedroom suites have rich limestone baths and showers, wine refrigerators, and personal butler service; bay windows look out into the impeccably maintained gardens and enchanting flower-filled courtyards. The rooms all recently underwent a redesign that includes lush green velvet headboards and sofas that add a bold nod to the palms just outside, while white linens and pops of lavender brighten the space. Each room features a curated collection of black and white photography by renowned photographer Terry O’Neill, that pays homage to some of the most inspiring icons of pop culture. Amenities include an on-site hair salon and spa, and Café Boulud, a local outpost of the New York original; hotel guests reportedly have a better shot than outsiders at procuring a table. Don't feel like dressing up for dinner? There's in-room dining from the same kitchen.

The Breakers Palm Beach

$$$$ | 1 S. County Rd., Palm Beach, FL, 33480, USA Fodor's Choice
The Breakers Palm Beach, Palm Beach
Courtesy of The Breakers Palm Beach

More than an opulent hotel, The Breakers is a legendary 140-acre self-contained jewel of a resort built in a Mediterranean style and loaded with amenities, from a 20,000-square-foot luxury spa and grandiose beach club with four pools and a half-mile private beach to 10 tennis courts, croquet courts, and two 18-hole golf courses. Henry Flagler's descendants still run the place and invest $25 million a year to keep it at the cutting edge. Dating from 1896 and on the National Register of Historic Places, the common areas have water nymphs frolicking at the main fountain, and majestic frescoes grace hallways leading to restaurants. The equally lovely rooms take on a different, more contemporary character and are best described as cheerfully sophisticated with a classic style. For added luxury, there's the 25-room, private-access Flagler Club, a "guest house" within the hotel with added amenities like a private lounge, plush decor, and car service via the club's Tesla. One of the most extensive wine collections in the world is housed here, keeping the hotel's six sommeliers busy, and the resort's ten restaurants and eight bars are all excellent. In addition, the property's historic par-70 Ocean Course, the oldest 18 holes in all of Florida, as well as its contemporary off-site counterpart, The Breakers Rees Jones Course, are open to members and hotel guests only; for those looking to learn on the green, the John Webster Golf Academy offers private and group lessons. With all that's going on at The Breakers, it's a miracle if you can ever pry yourself off the property.

Pros

  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Beautiful room views
  • Extensive activities for families

Cons

  • Big price tag
  • Short drive to reach off-property attractions
  • Pools can get crowded

Little Palm Island Resort & Spa

$$$$ | 28500 Overseas Hwy., FL, 33042, USA Fodor's Choice
Little Palm Island Resort & Spa, Little Torch Key
Little Palm Island Resort & Spa

Haute tropicale best describes this wildly luxurious private-island retreat, and "second mortgage" might explain how some can afford the extravagant prices, but for those who can, it's worth the price. This property sits on a private 5½-acre palm-fringed island inhabited by Key deer, 3 miles offshore from Little Torch Key. The 15 oceanfront thatch-roofed bungalows house 30 suites with copper soaking tubs, mosquito-netting-draped king-size beds, and British colonial–style furnishings. Other comforts include an indoor and outdoor shower, private veranda, separate living room, and comfy robes and slippers. Two Island Grand Suites are twice the size of the others and offer his-and-hers bathrooms, an outdoor copper tub, and uncompromising ocean views. To preserve the quiet atmosphere, there are no TVs in the bungalows, and cell phones are highly discouraged in public areas.

Pros

  • Secluded setting
  • Heavenly spa
  • Easy wildlife viewing

Cons

  • Might be too quiet for some

St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, North Miami Beach

This posh resort (which cost over $1 billion to build) embodies the next level of ultraglamour and haute living along Miami's North Beach. In every facet of design and operation, the 27-story St. Regis is magnificent. An unassuming entrance gives way to a series of three-story, octagonal lobby partitions finished in rare West African movingui wood and exclusively quarried Chinese marble, illuminated by sparkling chandeliers hung from rosette ceilings, and decked in world-class European artwork. Rooms range from enormous (650 square feet) to gigantic (2,800 square feet), with oversize ocean-view balconies and surprisingly light, understated interiors; discreet butlers are on hand to manage your every need. The 14,000-square-foot spa offers every imaginable treatment, and multiple restaurants provide a nice range of smart culinary experiences. Choose between two infinity pools—each with different experiences. The adult's tranquillity pool is the place to catch up on your reading (or grab a catnap in the sun). The main ocean pool is a family-friendly area. Expect surprises and perks like smoothie tastings, sunscreen, and cold towels during your pool visit. The resort has a kids' day camp if you need some me time. Also set aside some time to shop at chic Bal Harbour Shops, across the street.

1 Hotel South Beach

$$$$ | 2341 Collins Ave., FL, 33139, USA Fodor's Choice

This snazzy eco-minded hotel delivers a picturesque, nature-inspired aesthetic throughout the common spaces and room interiors (think heavy use of repurposed wood, living walls, preserved moss, and glassware from recycled wine bottles) and offers a choice of four swimming pools (including the best rooftop one in Florida), a luxurious beach club featuring Wave, a sea-to-table restaurant, and an excellent swath of beach. The 1’s famed 110-foot rooftop pool is laced with palm trees and loungers and remains adults-only day and night, when it transforms into one of the city’s coolest bars. An annex of the larger Mediterranean-style The Boca Raton (but set on the downy sands rather than the Intracoastal Waterway), the casually elegant property has 210 rooms, ranging from 420-square-foot standards to 800-square-foot one-bedroom suites overlooking the Atlantic. The rooms and suites showcase a spectacular design featuring honed marble and cerused woods complemented by vibrant coral velvet accents. Each room features a wet bar complete with a water filtration system so you can refill your water bottle for on-the-go hydration, flat-panel TVs, plush bedding, Acqua di Parma bath products, complimentary beach bags and flip-flops, and—most important—easy access to the sand and sea. Cheeca Lodge & Spa

$$$$ | 81801 Overseas Hwy., FL, 33036, USA Fodor's Choice

One of the most storied and luxurious resorts in the Keys, this legendary property still packs in more amenities than any other we can think of. In the main lodge, sand-and-sea-inspired rooms boast luxurious touches like elegant outdoor soaking tubs that fill in a stream from the ceiling. The main building also holds three oceanfront restaurants including a sushi bar, two outdoor swimming pools, and two tiki bars to keep the party going. The resort's other buildings hold more styles of accommodations and a spa with a bevy of signature treatments, including hot-lava shell massages, as well as an adults-only lap pool with a bar, and a fitness center. In addition, 10 stand-alone "casitas" offer an ultra-private experience, with each one featuring furnished porches, fully equipped kitchens, and personal butlers. For the outdoorsy types, there's a 1,100-foot private beach, kayaks, bikes, fishing rods (to fish off the 525-foot pier), a walking trail, 9 holes of golf (designed by Jack Nicklaus), tennis, and water sports galore. For families, Camp Cheeca is the ideal place to drop off your kids ages 5 to 12; you get alone time, and they get a fun and educational program. Like shopping? The resort's signature store is open every day. At night, tiki torches light up paths and add even more ambience, if that's possible.

Pros

  • Everything you need is on site
  • Designer rooms
  • Water-sports center on property

The Colony

$$$$ | 155 Hammon Ave., FL, 33480, USA Fodor's Choice

This exuberant and undeniably charming British-colonial-style hotel has spacious suites and chic decor and sits in a particularly convenient location, just one block from Worth Avenue and one block from a pretty beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The hotel underwent a five-year, $18 million top-to-bottom renovation in 2015 and rooms got a refresh in 2022. Taking inspiration from the hotel’s signature de Gournay wallpaper, rooms are done in soft pinks, greens, and ocean blues, and they have modern amenities mixed with vintage Palm Beach style. The pool area has ornamental plants, fountains, furniture, and pale pink umbrellas reminiscent of South Beach's grand art deco hotels. The pool itself is actually shaped like the state of Florida, although the panhandle is severely reduced in size. A signature Beach Buggy program shuttles guests to and from the ocean in a custom Palm Beach Pink buggy. An attentive staff, youthful yet experienced, is buzzing with competence and a desire to please. Spacious suites have sleeper sofas, and luxurious two-bedroom villas have laundry facilities and full kitchens. The bar is super popular with locals during the early evening hours.

Pros

  • Unbeatable location
  • Gorgeous decor
  • Luxe touches like pillow-top mattresses and beach butler service
