Keystone Lodge and Spa

$$ | 22101 U.S. 6, Keystone, CO, 80435, USA

The cinder-block structure gives no hint of the gracious, pampered living inside the door at this lodge next to the tiny lake in Keystone Village, close to several restaurants and shops. Rooms with king-size beds are on the small side, whereas rooms with two queen-size beds tend to be more generously proportioned. Many rooms have terraces overlooking the trees and Snake River. Perhaps best of all, a short shuttle ride delivers you directly to the slopes. After skiing, the resort spa provides a welcome respite.

The Maven Hotel at Dairy Block

$$$ | 1850 Wazee St., Denver, CO, 80202, USA

Located atop the Milk Market on the Dairy Block within walking distance of Coors Field, the Maven's quiet, larger-than-average rooms help shield guests from the chaos going on in the lobby and surrounding area. The front desk is a bit hidden within the bustling entrance, but once upstairs that all fades away in the modern, chic rooms, which offer lofted ceilings, massive windows with Coors Field or city views, and art that's unique to each space (the art hanging around the rest of the hotel is worth checking out, too). The $25 (plus tax) daily amenity fee gets guests a cup of coffee each morning, a beverage during happy hour, use of a courtesy car within a 2-mile radius, and access to a small but decent fitness center as well as discounts on food and shopping. Some rooms sport a swing or sectional sofa while others have a walk-out balcony or soaking tub; there are bunk-bed rooms available, too, which are ideal for families (guests need to request specific room attributes). The colorful, light-filled Milk Market houses 16 Frank Bonanno concept spots, including Lou's Hot and Naked for chicken, Morning Jones for baked goods, and MoPoke for Hawaiian-style sushi, along with several cocktail bars/lounges, coffee shops, and retail stores.

Ski Tip Lodge

$$$ | 0764 Montezuma Rd., Keystone, CO, 80435, USA

Opened as a stop along the stagecoach route back in the 1880s, this property was turned into the state's first ski lodge in the 1940s by skiing pioneers Max and Edna Dercum. The rooms in this charming log cabin have been given quaint names like "Edna's Eyrie." Recently renovated rooms include some two-bedroom suites and feature light and bright decor with neutral bedding, vintage skis on the walls in some rooms, and wood trim that keeps the cabin feel. In winter you can relax in the sitting room in front of a wood-burning fireplace. In summer, retreat to the patio for a view of the surrounding mountains. A delicious breakfast is included in the room rate.
