Dunsmuir
Surrounded by towering forests and boasting world-class upper Sacramento River fly-fishing, Dunsmuir acquired its current moniker when a Scottish coal baron built a fountain in exchange for the town renaming itself in his honor. An upscale restaurant and a boutique hotel do business downtown. Farther out lie the restored-caboose lodgings of the fun Railroad Park Resort.
