Fodor's Expert Review Elk Meadow Cabins

7 Valley Green Camp Rd., off U.S. 101 north of Davison Rd., Orick, California, 95555, USA Fodor's Choice

From the porches of these beautifully restored 1,200-square-foot former mill workers' cottages, guests often see Roosevelt elk meandering in the meadows—or even their backyards. The furnishings are pleasantly modern, if functional, and all cabins have two or three bedrooms, full kitchens, two bathrooms, washer-dryers, and porches with grills. On the grounds are a communal fire pit and an outdoor hot tub. On the edge of Prairie Creek State Park, the cabins are a great base for some amazing Redwoods hiking.
