Flamingo Resort
If Don Draper from Mad Men popped into this 1950s motel-hotel hybrid 2¼ miles northeast of downtown Santa Rosa, he'd feel right at home. Guest rooms, all with refrigerators and coffeemakers, retain their high ceilings and that old-school flair. They're spread out in several fieldstone-clad buildings connected by glass-enclosed walkways encircling the Olympic-size outdoor pool. The suites and premium rooms, some with poolside patios, are spacious, and all the rooms have retro decor touches. From certain angles, the Flamingo exudes mid-century style, but although it has a large central pool, a spa, and a fitness center, the place feels more motor lodge than resort. One plus is the poolside Lazeaway Club restaurant and bar, with tropical-themed drinks and a party atmosphere. Sunday poolside brunch is a treat.
