A Good Walk in Charlottetown

Start your walk at the Confederation Centre of the Arts on Richmond Street, in the heart of downtown. Housing the provincial art gallery and a public library, it’s also home to the Charlottetown Festival. Next door, the Province House National Historic Site is where the first meeting to discuss federal union took place. Turn onto Great George Street, dipping into St. Dunstan's Basilica, a Roman Catholic church notable for its twin Gothic spires. Then continue down Great George to the water, where you can enjoy lunch at a wharf-side restaurant or a picnic in Confederation Landing Park. Next, follow the boardwalk to Founders' Hall.After going inside for a crash course in Canadian history, head back to Province House and explore the shops of Victoria Row before investigating what Queen Street has to offer in the way of pubs and restaurants. Many visitors will be happy to call it a day there. But if you have the time (and attention span) for one further sight, venture west to visit one of the finest 19th-century residential buildings in the city: Beaconsfield Historic House.

TIMING: The downtown area can be explored on foot in a few hours, but the wealth of sights and harbor views warrants a full day.
