Many "townies" home on vacation head here for traditional Newfoundland fare such as fish and brewis (bread and fish soaked in water and boiled) and Jigg's dinner (boiled salted meat served with potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and turnips). Prices have risen as the tourists have found Velma's, but it's still pretty reasonable if it's down-home food rather than fancy decor you're after.
