On a quiet cove on Freshwater Bay, this little inn has large, well-equipped rooms and is a decent base for visiting Terra Nova National Park, 25 km (15 miles) south. The chic rooms have cathedral ceilings, hardwood floors, and bathrooms with claw-foot tubs; the extras include reasonably priced snacks and wine. Breakfast is served in a small dining room that has a collection of interesting artifacts. The 10 acres of grounds include a waterside deck, a fire pit, and a nature trail through woodlands.

Built in the 1920s as a general store, it has been completely restored, and the comfortable rooms contain locally made furniture.
