47 Best Hotels in Vancouver, British Columbia

Background Illustration for Hotels

Vancouver is a pretty compact city, but each neighborhood has a distinct character and its own style of accommodations options. From hip boutique hotels to historic bed-and-breakfasts to sharp-angled glass-and-mirror towers, there are lodging choices for every style and budget. You can choose to be in the center of the shopping action on Robson Street, among the gracious tree-lined boulevards near Stanley Park, or in close proximity to the pulsing heart of the city's core.

Vancouver is an extremely outdoorsy community, so hotel amenities can sometimes include free bicycles and free ski storage, and many concierges can put you in contact with hiking and running groups that welcome visitors. Some properties even offer complimentary limo service, usually to the theater, or for picking you up after shopping, which comes in especially handy if you have lots of bags.

The city is extremely pet-friendly, especially when it comes to dogs. Not only can you bring your pooch with you to many Vancouver properties, some even let you borrow their dog for a walk (check out the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, for instance).

With its goal to become the greenest city in the world by 2020 (as in eco-wise, not with respect to the already abundant natural greenery), recycling and sustainability are essential parts of life in Vancouver. Many hoteliers have also made eco-friendly practices an integral part of the guest experience. For example, Fairmont Waterfront was among the first in the world to adopt a green roof concept—the garden and apiary supply the hotel with herbs and honey—and it has electric vehicle charging stations. The hotel also initiated groundbreaking water conservation and waste management systems. Supporting the community and protecting the surrounding landscapes have become good business practices, and the Westin Bayshore followed the trend by financially assisting in the creation of Cardero Park, on the east side of the property.

Be forewarned though: environmental awareness and community building are top of mind for most Vancouverites. That means hotels with a water view or exemplary environmental report cards are coveted and book up well in advance. Some of the historic bed-and-breakfasts you'll find in the more homey residential neighborhoods like the West End and near Stanley Park are also extremely popular.

Loden Hotel

$$$$ | 1177 Melville St., Vancouver, BC, V6E 0A3, Canada

This modish, designer boutique hotel offers a variety of perks to enhance your stay, including rooms equipped with Wi-Fi, TVs with oversized LCD screens, a Nespresso machine, and a yoga mat. Floor-to-ceiling windows fill the spacious guest rooms with natural light—and if you slide open the bathroom's half wall you can enjoy the views from the soaker tub. Ask for an upgrade upon arrival, and you might get a corner room with two walls of windows for fabulous views, or a one-bedroom suite. Although centrally located, the hotel is on a side street, so it's much quieter than its Downtown counterparts. There's a state-of-the-art gym and free bicycles to explore the city, as well as a London-style taxi. (The cabbie provides drop off/pick up services Downtown.) The hotel's Tableau Bar Bistro, serving French-influenced west coast cuisine, is a great spot, too.

Pros

  • Quiet, central location
  • Free bicycles and Downtown car service
  • 1,400-square-foot fitness studio

Cons

  • Locals tend to snag best lounge and restaurant seats
  • No pool

O Canada House B&B

$$$$ | 1114 Barclay St., Vancouver, BC, V6E 1H1, Canada

This beautifully restored 1897 Victorian is home to an elegant but comfortable B&B with fun historical significance. It's where the first version of O Canada, the country's national anthem, was penned in 1909. Each bedroom has classic and quirky antiques, alongside modern comforts such as bathrobes to help make things homey. The top-floor room is enormous, with two king beds and a private sitting and dining area. A separate one-room coach house in the garden is a romantic option, though it faces onto the back alley and is a bit cramped. Breakfast, served in the dining room, is a lavish affair.

Pros

  • Limited off-street parking
  • Fantastic breakfast
  • Within walking distance of Downtown

Cons

  • Many rooms on the small side
  • No elevator to the upper rooms
  • Some heritage aspects feel a bit shabby

Pan Pacific Vancouver

$$$$ | 999 Canada Pl., Vancouver, BC, V6C 3B5, Canada

Located in the waterfront Canada Place complex, the sophisticated Pan Pacific has easy access to the city's convention center and the cruise ship terminal. The atrium lobby is two floors above the convention center foyer, so although dramatic, it feels uninviting. Rooms are large and modern with stunning ocean, mountain, or skyline views, and are outfitted with comfortable beds and pillows. High-end suites, some with private steam rooms, saunas, or baby-grand pianos, are popular with a star-studded list of royals, celebrities, and well-heeled news makers. The 26-room Roman bath-themed Spa Utopia and Salon is sumptuous. The health and fitness center is state-of-the-art, and the outdoor saltwater swimming pool offers panoramic views of Coal Harbour and Stanley Park.

Pros

  • Lovely harbor views
  • Staff has a "go the extra mile" attitude
  • Fabulous spa

Cons

  • Atrium is open to the convention center, so it's often full of chatting executives
  • Parking is expensive (C$55 per day)

Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront

$$$$ | 1133 W. Hastings St., Vancouver, BC, V6E 3T3, Canada

A quality hotel with large rooms, the pet-friendly Pinnacle Hotel Harbourfront is a good base for exploring Downtown by foot, bicycle, or car. Op art decor makes for colorful rooms, which have either Juliet or full-size glassed-in balconies with city or (in the more expensive rooms) partial water and mountain views. (FYI, the higher the floor, the better the view.) With an indoor pool, a health club, and complimentary use of hotel bikes, guests will appreciate the amenities and the practical location (it's near the Vancouver Convention Centre, business district, and Stanley Park). The reception is at the top of a marble staircase, so it means a) tipping for bellhop assistance, b) taking the slow-as-molasses elevator, or c) lugging your own bags.

Pros

  • Surrounding financial district is quiet at night
  • Near the waterfront
  • Great views

Cons

  • A five-block walk to shopping and theaters
  • A five-block walk to Stanley Park

Seaside Hotel

$$$$ | 130-125 Victory Ship Way, Vancouver, BC, V7L 0G5, Canada

Floor-to-ceiling windows offer sweeping ocean and mountain views at this North Vancouver boutique hotel. Opened in 2019 in the pedestrian-friendly Shipyards District, the Seaside is near everything on the North Shore, and is just a Seabus ride away from Vancouver's city center. Cool blues and grays, reclaimed wood walls, and heated bathroom floors, with soaker tubs in some suites, create a serene spa-like feel. Rooms are large—especially the corner suites. Provisions, the on-site restaurant and lounge, is a good choice for Pacific Northwest fare. But there are plenty of other dining choices within walking distance.

Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre

$$$$ | 1088 Burrard St., Vancouver, BC, V6Z 2R9, Canada

This stunning pair of ultramodern glass high-rises is on Downtown's highest ground, which means that the top floors of both towers have unrivaled views of the water, mountains, and city skyline. The best views are above the 14th floor or in one of the corner rooms with two walls of glass. Rooms are chic and spacious, with exceptionally comfortable beds and original (often local) artwork. In the North Tower, the upbeat, modern public areas are decorated with bright colors and an eclectic variety of art. The South Tower is where to find tour pick ups and taxis. And between the two, is a landscaped courtyard that covers an entire city block and is a great place to relax on a sunny day.

Skwachays Lodge

$$$$ | 31 W. Pender St., Vancouver, BC, V6B 1R3, Canada

As Canada's first aboriginal arts hotel—with First Nations owners and operators—Skwachays offers a one-of-a-kind experience; every room has been co-designed by a different First Nations artist and interior designer to combine luxurious comfort with floor-to-ceiling, themed artwork. One guest room is done up as a forest of silver birch trees; another has a totem pole stretching up from the balcony to the rooftop. Cultural offerings include a sweat lodge on the upper floor, artists' studios, and a restaurant serving food (such as bannock) with a traditional flair. Located on the edge of Chinatown on Vancouver's east side, the hotel is barely a five-minute cab ride from downtown but it is unique enough to make the trip worthwhile.

Pros

  • Lively First Nations cultural narrative embodied in the design and style
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Unique experience in Vancouver hotels

Cons

  • On the eastern edge of downtown, so a bit out of the heart of the action
  • Gym is off-site (and has a fee)

St. Regis Hotel

$$$$ | 602 Dunsmuir St., Vancouver, BC, V6B 1Y6, Canada

It's the oldest continuously operating hotel in the city, but edgy, modern decor livens up the 1913 boutique property. Canadian artwork (which can even be found in the stairwells) and heritage furnishings gives this property a unique sense of place. Rooms and suites come in various shapes, sizes, and configurations (sofa beds and adjoining doors are good family options) because of the building's original architecture. All rooms have plug-and-play gadget panels, in-room safes that accommodate laptops, and more than 200 TV channels. The lower-level front rooms can be noisy. There's a pub below, and middle-of-the-night deliveries can be disturbing. You have a choice of bathroom styles—some only have showers, but make no mistake, they're first-class and all have heated bathroom floors and high-end bath products. Although there are no views, the rates include à la carte breakfast for two and other niceties like passes to Fitness World around the corner. The Gotham Steak House is a local fave.

Pros

  • Hot location
  • Complimentary global long-distance calling
  • à la carte breakfast for two

Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown Hotel

$$$$ | 1128 W. Hastings St., Vancouver, BC, V6E 4R5, Canada

Close to the cruise ship terminal and midway between the central business district and Stanley Park, the Marriott Pinnacle is a sleek, large-scale hotel with stunning views—once you get past the rather jumbled welcome of the atrium lobby trying to be all things from lounge to bar (with live music Friday and Saturday) to restaurant to registration area.
