14 Best Hotels in Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta

This classic, 1960s motel offers a variety of affordable accommodations that have painted cinder-block walls, wood-beam ceilings, and small bathrooms with shower stalls. All rooms have cable TV and mini-fridges; some rooms have kitchenettes and air-conditioning, and some are designated as pet-friendly. On-site amenities include free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate (available in the office) and a picnic area with barbecues. Low prices used to attract the party crowd, but a well-enforced "quiet after 10 pm rule" has made this property family-friendly.

A high steeple crowns this iconic 1920s hotel, which is fantastically ornamented with eaves, balconies, and turrets; is perched between two lakes with a high-mountain backdrop; and has a lobby where two-story windows capture the views. Even if you don't choose to stay in the hotel, you should stop by to take a picture on the bluff behind it, visit the well-stocked gift shop, or enjoy afternoon tea, which is served in the lobby daily. Expect creaks and rattles at night—the old hotel is exposed to rough winds. Rooms are small and are priced high for their size, but you'll want to check this place off your bucket list. Guests can also enjoy evening storytelling in the lobby or go on a guided tour of the property.

Right in town and on the shores of Waterton Lake, this inn has a lot going for it: lovely views, the only on-site spa in Waterton, multiple dining options, and easy access to many services. Most rooms are standard motel-style units with one or two beds. Lakefront rooms have great water and mountain views, which can be seen from a private deck.

This small resort-operated hotel is right on the mountain. There are five rooms with two queen beds, five rooms with one queen bed and a bunk bed, and two large dorm-style hostel rooms. The original Kilmorey Lodge opened in 1926 and was beloved by both locals and visitors; unfortunately, a fire destroyed the original lodge in 2009, so the new property was built from the ground up offering private balconies or patios in all rooms, unlike the original. Rooms also have Keurig coffeemakers, and afternoon tea is served daily. Most rooms can accommodate 2 or 4 guests, but there is one suite that can accommodate 6 people.  

This historic lodge was once the handsome residence of Great Northern Railway (GNR) tycoon Louis W. Hill, and its large balconies offered excellent views; it's rumored that Hill kept his mistress here. Today it's a lovely 9-room bed-and-breakfast with uniquely decorated rooms, most with private bathrooms. Most rooms accommodate two people, but there is a room that can accommodate up to five people. Washed bedding and sheets are hung to dry and hand-pressed with lavender water, as has been done for many years. Breakfast is included with a room stay and features coffee, various teas, juices, apple cider, and hot chocolate along with hot freshly baked muffins. The lodge has a nice indoor sitting area and lovely outdoor decks and patios.

Located off Highway 6, this hotel has an indoor pool with a waterslide and a hot tub, a fitness center, and a free hot and cold continental breakfast. There's also a fitness room, a business center, and guest laundry facilities. Rooms are pet-friendly and have microwaves, fridges, phones, and coffee/tea makers. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the property, but the signal can be weak in some areas.

Rates drop substantially during the off-season. Accommodation choices range from standard hotel rooms to a three-bedroom suite that sleeps up to six people and has a full kitchen. Most of the six guest bedrooms in this B&B have remote-control king-size beds that can be adjusted to suit individual comfort levels.
