A high steeple crowns this iconic 1920s hotel, which is fantastically ornamented with eaves, balconies, and turrets; is perched between two lakes with a high-mountain backdrop; and has a lobby where two-story windows capture the views. Even if you don't choose to stay in the hotel, you should stop by to take a picture on the bluff behind it, visit the well-stocked gift shop, or enjoy afternoon tea, which is served in the lobby daily. Expect creaks and rattles at night—the old hotel is exposed to rough winds. Rooms are small and are priced high for their size, but you'll want to check this place off your bucket list. Guests can also enjoy evening storytelling in the lobby or go on a guided tour of the property.

Washed bedding and sheets are hung to dry and hand-pressed with lavender water, as has been done for many years. The lodge has a nice indoor sitting area and lovely outdoor decks and patios.

Although starting to look tired and a bit run-down, this hotel in the heart of the townsite has the only indoor swimming pool in Waterton, along with a hot tub, a games room, an extensive fitness center, and a restaurant. Nonguests can buy passes to enter the pool, hot tub, and fitness facilities, but lodge guests have free access. The lodge is open year-round, and rents skis and snowshoes in the winter months.
