ABOUT

The pre-1900 wood-frame buildings and the more recent sandstone-and-brick buildings have established Fort Macleod, southern Alberta's oldest town, as the province's first historic area. It was founded by the North West Mounted Police in 1874 to maintain order among the farmers, local people, whiskey sellers, and ranchers.
