Central America's first modern urban rail system, the Panama Metro opened its first line in 2014, and operates daily (5 am until 10 pm Monday through Saturday and 7 am until 10 pm on Sunday), costs 35¢ per ride (plus $2 to buy the reusable Metro card) and offers an efficient, traffic-free option for travelers, with air-conditioned cars and stations. For foreign visitors, Line 1—the only one currently operating—is mostly best for traveling between the tourist-heavy neighborhood called El Cangrejo, Albrook Mall, and the city's main bus station. It's also possible to walk from the station at Plaza 5 de Mayo to the Casco Antiguo, but it's a bit of a hike.
