Santa Rosa National Park

Santa Rosa National Park blends forest and pristine beaches overlooking the famed surf spot Witch’s Rock. North of Liberia, the park is less frequented than other national parks in Costa Rica due to the difficult terrain (especially in rainy season) and the remote location far off the beaten path. The country’s first national park, it still has an untouched beauty that is evident from the chirping birds among the treetops to the white-tailed deer drinking from watering holes. There are several campsites where travelers can soak in the sounds of Santa Rosa’s symphony, comprised of howler monkeys, coyotes, bats, and the occasional jaguar. The best time to experience the typical dry-forest vegetation and wildlife is during dry season when leaves are sparse and roads are accessible.
