Bike Travel

BiciMAD (www.bicimad.com) is Madrid's public bike-share service with 208 docks scattered around the city center. The bikes are electric, meaning you hardly have to pedal, and are an excellent alternative to the metro and buses, provided the weather is good and you're comfortable riding in traffic (separate bike lanes are virtually nonexistent). Avid urban cyclists staying for a month or more may wish to purchase a €25 yearly membership, which drastically lowers the cost of individual rides to €0.60 for up to one hour, but occasional users can pay €2 per 30-minute ride, buying a ticket at each service station. The bikes can be borrowed from, and returned to, any station in the system.
