Son Brull

$$$$ | Ctra. Palma–Pollença, Pollença, 07460, Spain Fodor's Choice

"Oasis" springs to mind when driving up through family vineyards to this lovingly restored medieval monastery, reborn as a deluxe resort hotel. Weather permitting, meals are served on the poolside patio, with a beautiful view of the Tramuntana Mountains. However, an atmospheric lounge-tapas bar is also inside, decorated with an ancient olive press, stone arches, and thatched vaulted ceilings. Guest rooms have king-size beds and comfortable modern furnishings; bathrooms have huge shower stalls, jetted tubs, and towel warmers. The straw hats in the rooms left there for strolling the grounds in the summer sun are typical of the meticulous attention to detail at Son Brull.

Pros

  • Charm and sophistication
  • Strategic location (and a bike center) for exploring Pollença, Alcúdia, and the S'Albufereta wildlife reserve
  • Excellent breakfast included

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Three-night minimum booking in high season
  • No sea view might disappoint some

Six Senses Ibiza

$$$$ | Carrer Camí de sa Torre 71, Sant Joan de Labritja, 07810, Spain

If you can stomach the once-in-a-lifetime price, Ibiza's chicest wellness retreat, built seamlessly into the cliffs above Xarraca Bay (12 miles from Santa Gertrudis), rewards with unparalleled spa facilities, a longevity clinic, an infinity pool, and fresh fish served among century-old olive trees. It took 10 years to bring the concept to life, mainly to keep it in tune with the wild surroundings. Thatched roofs, dense planting, and up to 51% of power from renewables ensure there's substance to the unquestionable style. With multiple restaurants, a kids' club, and a schedule of holistic workshops, the resort lures singles, families, and those seeking a medical-grade approach to wellness. The only drawback is the big one—the cost.

Pros

  • Very family-friendly
  • You won't be bored: there are workshops, a gym with boxing ring
  • Seclusion, cliffside beauty, views

Cons

  • Children may annoy some who've come for quiet
  • Investment-level expensive
  • A hire car is needed (or it's a €60 taxi to Eivissa)
