Meliá Barcelona Sky

Carrer Pere IV 272–286, Barcelona, Catalonia 08005, Spain

Meliá Barcelona Sky is a chic and modern hotel on the northeast side of the city in the quiet, yet lively neighborhood of Poble Nou. Away from the touristy areas of the center but still easy to access, this skyscraping spot soars 26-floors above the city and provides its guests with sweeping views of the ocean on one side and the Serra de Collserola mountain range on the other.

If you book directly on their site you'll get a 15% discount on all F&B outlets plus a welcome drink on arrival. We're looking at you cava-lovers.

Awash in gray, the minimalist rooms feature flat-screen TVs, work desks, and day beds. Either side of the hotel provides intense views as you can see the sun rise over the water or set behind the mountains with La Sagrada Familia just visible to the west. Gray rubber floors are both soft and sticky and are featured throughout and guests of The Level rooms will find complimentary Nespresso machines. Ample outlets flank both sides of the bed for ample charging needs.

The Level is the hotel’s club lounge where 99 of the rooms have automatic access. However, if you pay 60 Euros/day you can get full access to the lounge’s snacks, drinks, spa, and epic views.

Peekaboo bathrooms are not for the shy at heart, but there’s enough space to give you separation for other washing needs. All come with rain showers, towel heaters, bathrobes, and take-home slippers.

An expansive lobby features a smattering of sitting areas and more modern-minimalist design touches – look up to spy a unique metal-pipe chandelier. In the back of the lobby is also the hotel’s MERKADO Restaurant for all-day dining.

A giant pool deck on the 6th floor comes fully furnished with cabanas, loungers, and comfy white beanbags for all-day sunbathing. Dubbed Le Pool Club, guests will find craft cocktails, summer barbecues, and delicious tapas.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Summer months at the pool is often filled with events and parties. Ask ahead as there are instances where you won’t have access to the water because of private soirees.

Yhi Wellness Spa is open from 11 am to 9 pm and comes fully equipped with co-ed saunas, Turkish baths, and bi-thermal showers. The Level provides free access to the area, but regular guests will have to pay a fee. Treatments include a wide range of massage, facial, and skin treatment options.

Open 24/7, the quaint gym has hardwood floors, Life Fitness machines, free weights, and free water and apples.

There are multiple dining options at the hotel, but unfortunately for everyone, Michelin-rated Dos Cielos is closed for good. But don’t fret, there are plenty of options to keep you sated. If you have The Level at your disposal, you’ll find a hearty buffet breakfast and free snacks all day long on the 24th and 25th floors. On the ground level, MERKADO serves up Mediterranean cuisine for lunch and dinner.

Part of The Level includes Tapas Time! From 6-7:30pm, you’ll have access to fun finger-foods and all the cava you can consume. The indoor/outdoor space looks out over the water as well.

24 Cielos is the stunning, fully decked bar on the 24th floor of the hotel with majestic views of the sea. On the ground floor, you’ll find MERKADO Cocktail Bar & Terrace where masterful bartenders whip up classic and creative cocktails all made from local products.

Getting Around

Though the hotel is outside the traditional center, it’s only a 10-minute walk to the nearest metro station and the Barcelona TRAM has a stop just outside the property. There is parking here, but public transportation is readily available and cheap which means don’t bother with that car rental.

With 22 individual food vendors, Mercat del Poble Nou (10-minute walk) is a great way to sample local flavors and get a glimpse into daily life in the neighborhood. If you love tapas (you are in Barcelona), check out El 58 (10-minute walk) for both traditional and contemporary styled finger-foods.

One of the best, and longest running EDM clubs in town is at a hotspot called Razzmatazz (15-minute walk). For fans of the show Lost, check out Bharma (12-minute walk), a themed bar with meticulously designed details that pay homage to the hit TV show.

This hip hotel hits on a lot of fronts. The views first and foremost are why you come here. Sweeping vistas of the sea and mountains are simply stunning. If you hate tourists (we’re looking at you tourist hater), then this hotel is a nice alternative to the inner-city joints where flocks of Gaudí-gazers clog the sidewalks and streets. The nicest perk is The Level rooms and accoutrements (but you’ll have to pay to access – more for the room or a daily rate). A little off the beaten track but not exactly far from most attractions, Meliá Barcelona Sky is a modern abode with lots to love.
