Gallery Hotel

Roselló 249, Barcelona, Catalonia 08008, Spain

Paul Feinstein

A fun lifestyle hotel, Gallery has a prime real estate spot just off the glitzy Passeig de Gràcia and just south of Avinguda Diagonal – the main thoroughfare that cuts through the entire city. Inside the hotel are a bevy of great amenities, including a rooftop pool and bar, a sumptuous restaurant, monthly pop-up events, and stylish and spacious rooms. With a very reasonable price point and a high level of service, this four-star-plus spot is worthy of your attention.

The hotel leads guests on a walking tour Thursdays and Saturdays if you want to learn something while you're here!

Rooms are pretty simple – gray wood floors, floral-patterned wallpaper, white walls, and smart TVs. All come with Bluetooth speakers, free bottled water, and tea kettles (superior and higher come with Nespresso machines).

If you want to flit around the city a little faster, you can rent bikes directly from the hotel.

Nice bathrooms feature charcoal counters, shower/bath combos, shaving mirrors, and bidets. Slippers are comfy and take-home-able, and Gilchrist & Soames products are standard in all rooms.

From the moment you arrive, you’ll experience Gallery’s signature scent (it’s not bad), but the lobby is more of a waiting area with deep purple velvet couches that sink a little too low and are probably due for a replacement. On the same floor but just outside the hotel is a passageway that leads up to Avinguda Diagonal and Palau Robert. Here, you’ll also discover a small coffee shop and the site of many pop-up events like art and fashion shows held by the hotel.

The rooftop features a small rectangular pool with glorious views of the mountains. The roof has wood-slat floors and cushy loungers for sunbathers and there’s a poolside bar which is a hotspot during summer months.

There’s no spa, but there is a sauna that’s open from 8 am to 8 pm (though you need to reserve it ahead of time). You can also order in-room massages (you need to book this eight hours in advance).

Also open from 8am-8pm, the gym, which resides on the sixth floor by the pool, has gray rubber floors, cardio machines and free weights, and offers free yoga sessions on Sundays.

El Café del Gallery is the hotel’s number one dining option. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the cute space offers Mediterranean cuisine with all local products and has a gorgeous foliage-lined courtyard with a retractable roof.

The Top is the poolside bar that’s mostly open during warmer months and features signature cocktails, delicious tapas, and weekly events including DJ sessions, live music, and fun parties.

Getting Around

The hotel is at the top of the Eixample neighborhood and nearby some of the best restaurants, bars, and shopping in town. Passeig de Gràcia is half a block away and known for chic boutiques and also some of Antoní Gaudí’s best work. The closest metro is at Diagonal, which is 1-minute away and there are always taxis cruising around here.

If you want to eat lunch like a local, then head over to the Alma Hotel where inside is Jardín del Alma (6-minute walk), a stupendous Catalan spot with one of the most peaceful outdoor courtyards anywhere. Breakfast lovers should check out Pastelerías Mauri (3-minute walk) which has mouthwatering goodies baked fresh daily.

Boca Chica (2-minute walk) is a cocktail fan’s dream spot and also a fun and flirty single’s scene. For tapas and vermouth, his up Bar Mut (5-minute walk), which is known city-wide for some of the best of both.

Gallery Hotel is a lifestyle spot that encourages its guests to mix and mingle with fun activities throughout the week (more so in the summer). With an active calendar, there’s always something going on between the rooftop bar, the pop-ups in the next-door alley, or in the main restaurant. The food and drinks are good at all outlets and the coffee shop is the perfect grab’n’go counter for travelers on the run. Rooms are spacious and simple and the location of the hotel is perfect if you don’t want to be in the middle of the city center, but in a place that’s still walkable or metro-rideable to anything you might need.
