Stranraer was for more than a century the main ferry port between Scotland and Northern Ireland. Its closure, and the transfer of ferry traffic to nearby Cairnryan, is changing the town now and in the future. The city center has had a major face-lift, and there are plans to redevelop the harbor as a leisure centre and transportation hub. Stranraer has a lovely garden.
